She is the daughter of 1960s R&B singer Syl Johnson and Brenda Thompson, who was America’s first black female poilice commissioner. Syleena has been active in her career since 1997, and is perhaps best known for her soul, even soulful, music on the eight studio albums that she has released, including Love Hangover (1999), Chapter 3: The Flesh (2005), Chapter 5: The Underrated (2011), and Chapter 6: Couples Therapy (2013 – 2014).
