After matriculating from New Dorp High School, Kevin went to the College of Staten Island, but transferred to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, from where he graduated at the age of 21. Further academic achievements include four years of apprenticeship with famous German actress Uta Hagen, and a course on Drama Studies at HB Studio, Greenwich Village NY. In his mid-20s, he worked at a comic book shop, which helped shape his skills to play the role of Stuart in “The Big Bang Theory”.
The movies which most inspired him during these early days were “The Graduate”, “Kramer v. Kramer” and “Taxi Driver”. Kevin made his television series debut in 1996, at the age of 26, playing a minor role in an episode of “Law & Order”.
He made his movie debut three years later in 1999, playing the role of Alan Joseph Zuckerman in “Liberty Heights”.
Career
Kevin Sussman then moved to Los Angeles, where he was cast for a main role in the TV series “Ugly Betty”, and between 2006 and 2007 starred in 16 episodes of the show.
This success led him to a bigger breakthrough in 2009, when he landed the secondary role of Stuart in “The Big Bang Theory”. While having never taken improv classes, Kevin’s role in the series grew in importance exponentially during the years. From seasons two to five, he appeared in seven episodes, while from seasons six and 12 he became a main character, appearing in a total of 85 episodes.
He missed a couple of episodes during the eighth season of the show, due to a biking accident, which resulted in Kevin breaking his leg.
Kevin has also featured as a supporting character in several movies, but these are overshadowed by his success in the television series business. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that he played a minor role in Spielberg’s 2001 “A.I. Artificial Intelligence”, which grossed $235 million, and Andy Tennant’s 2005 movie “Hitch”, which with a budget of $55- $70 million grossed over $370 million. Other notable movie contributions include “Changing Lanes”, “Made of Honor” and “Sweet Home Alabama”.
Kevin also starred in several TV commercials commissioned by FedEx and Eggos during the dot com era in the early 2000s.
While receiving no awards yet, Kevin has been nominated for the Gold Derby TV Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award.
Kevin Sussman has been on hiatus from acting – it’s unknown why, or what he’s been doing, but he’s now filming the TV series “The Dropout”, set to premiere in March 2022.
Personal life, marriage, divorce
Kevin Sussman married Alessandra Young in a secret wedding in January 2006. Not much is known ab out his wife’s professional career, or how the two met.
Nevertheless, it’s rumored that they separated informally on 31 December 2012 after almost seven years of marriage, and filed for divorce only two years later on 28 May 2014, but the papers were not signed and formalized until 3 October 2017. The reasons for the divorce are unclear, but sources suggest ‘personal differences’. The couple don’t have children. Alessandra has kept a very low profile throughout her married life and subsequent divorce, and doesn’t appear to have social media accounts.
Similarly, Kevin has kept his personal life mostly under wraps, but he confirmed in his Instagram account on 5 February 2018, that he was dating writer Whitney Rice. It is unclear when these twosplit up, but he posted photos with former hand model Addie Elizabeth Hall on his Instagram page on 19 October 2018. The couple continue to be together and have made this official on their social media accounts. No marriage plans have been made public, but many fans comment on their desire to see Kevin ‘put a ring on Addie’s finger’. The two seemingly live together, and adopted a dog, named Larry on 19 June 2021.
Kevin likes to spend his time with friends he’s met during his time acting. They include John Ross Bowie, one of the main stars of “The Big Bang Theory”, whom he initially met while filming “Ugly Betty”; it’s reported that the two have co-written at least three TV series pilots together. “Dark Minions” is one of these – Amazon selected and took it forward in 2013, not as a series but as a short, animated 25-minute movie which aired on 19 April of the same year.
Kevin Sussman has declared that he’s a shy person, citing this as the reason why he tries not to make the headlines with his personal life. His personality, combined with his early work in a comic book shop, has led him to being cast mainly in ‘nerd or geek, working in bookstores’.
Appearance and net worth
Kevin Sussman has brown curly hair and brown eyes, stands at 5ft 8in (175cm) and weights 137lbs (62kg). He has an athletic body and enjoys cycling. After recovering from a cycling incident while filming the eighth season of “The Big Bang Theory” in November 2014, he resumed his hobby and frequently shares his sports routine on Instagram.
