Justin attended Plainview High School, and during his time there represented the school in four sports including track, basketball, baseball, and football. He earned several honors as part of the football team, and also became a conference MVP in basketball, while also reaching high statistics in track, and being lettered once. After high school, he was named as a three-star recruit,and was sought by schools including from Colorado and Missouri.
Eventually, Blackmon signed with Oklahoma State University, and was given an athletic scholarship. He played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team from 2008 to 2011 and quickly became a starter after his first year, gaining popularity and being regarded as one of the top receivers during his time. In 2011, he led the league in both total receptions and receptions per game. He was a unanimous first-team All American selection, and received the Biletnikoff Award for two consecutive seasons. Despite not participating in any workouts, he proved to a lot of teams that he was fast and was now considered as the best wide receiver in the 2012 NFL Draft, and he was selected as the fifth pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He finished his first season leading all rookies with 64 receptions and 865 yards receiving. The following year however, he was given a four-game suspension because of a violation of the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. He also had to undergo groin surgery, but returned to the team soon after. A few months later, he was suspended indefinitely because of another Substances of Abuse violation. He didn’t play in the 2014 season, and during this time was arrested for possession of marijuana, and was sent to undergo a 90-day rehabilitation program. He was not reinstated by the NFL in 2015 and rumors were spreading that he was released from his Jacksonville contract. He was also arrested once again in the same year.
For his personal life, it is known that Justin has been arrested a few more times, mostly for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
