Julie Gold Net Worth $4 Million

Gold was born as one of two children to a mother born in Russia, who married an American who worked in the Philadelphia police department. The family soon moved to Philadelphia, where she finished at Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1974. Four years later she graduated from Temple University and immediately went to live in New York, as she had high hopes of becoming a songwriter. Her musical interest and songwriting talent was evident since her early childhood, as she composed her first songs when she was only four years old. By the time she was a teenager, she had already started to write them down, so it was no wonder that she strove to enter this profession. Gold went through a struggle during her first few years in New York, as she moved between part time jobs and ended up as a secretary at HBO, a job which aided her struggle to become a musician. Her net worth wasn’t much above zero at this point.

Although Julie had a solid manager, frequent gigs and a good repertoire, she didn’t manage to make a name for herself until she got a call from Nanci Griffith, which changed her life. Gold became a part of the Greenwich Village singer/songwriter scene, and started performing at “open mic nights”. This enabled her to make important future star friends and colleagues such as Suzanne Vega, John Gorka and Christine Lavin, who eventually became her mentor.

It was on Julie’s 30th birthday in 1986, when her parents sent her the piano she grew up with, and which resulted in Julie writing the song which changed her life for the best. The name of the song was “From A Distance” and Gold composed it in less than one hour. However, it wasn’t until 1990 that Bette Midler’s version of the song was released and became an instant hit, rising to number two on the pop charts. The single became platinum, sold one million copies, and the next year Julie received a Grammy Award for the Song of the Year, thus finally making her own way, and impressively increasing her net worth. Her wealth only continued to grow as the song has since been covered by several performers and was translated into foreign languages.

After the miraculous success of this composition, Julie was able to completely devote herself to music in the way she wanted. She was a member of “Four Bitchin’ Babes” from 1990 to 1994, with whom, among other members, she performed with Christine Lavin. Some of Gold’s other notable songs are, “Heaven”, “Southbound Train”, “Good Night New York”, “Mountain of Sorrow” and “Try Love”. Her song “Thanks to You” appeared on the soundtrack of the film “Andre”(1993) and “Dream Loud” was featured in “Unfaithful”, a film from 2002.

When it comes to her private life, almost everything remains truly private. However, it is known that Julie is of Jewish descent, as her paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Romania. Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer, but after a lumpectomy and chemo treatment, is definitely in remission.
