Tim Hardaway grew up in Chicago where he went to the Carver Area High School, after which Tim studied at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he played basketball under Hall of Famer coach Don Haskins and earned two MVP of El Paso’s Sun Bowl Invitational Tournament awards in 1987 and 1988. Hardaway also won the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award for the best college player with a height of six feet or under.

The Golden State Warriors selected Hardaway as the 14th pick overall in the 1989 NBA Draft, and he stayed there for six seasons and played in over 420 games. In his rookie season, Hardaway made it to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, recording 14.7 points, 8.7 assists, and 2.1 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. Together with Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond, Hardaway formed “Run TMC” (Tim, Mitch, Chris), the trio that had an important role in the Western Conference in the early ‘90s. In his sophomore year, Tim started every game and averaged 22.9 points, 9.7 assists, and 2.6 steals in 39.2 minutes, numbers which earned him a place in the All-Star game for the first time in his career, an achievement that Hardaway would repeat in the following two years.
