Gordon grew up in a working class family in Houston, where he attended Lamar High School, playing for the school football team and being named first-team All-District 20-5A. He also played basketball and ran track. In 2009 he enrolled in Baylor University, a private Baptist university in Waco, Texas. However, he was suspended from the Baylor football team after testing positive twice for marijuana. He totaled 43 career receptions for 721 yards and seven touchdowns in his two seasons at Baylor, then in 2011 he transferred to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, but sat out the whole season, due to NCAA transfer rules. Shortly after, he left Utah.

The following year Gordon was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplementary Draft, signing a four-year, $5.3 million contract with the team, considerably improving his net worth. After finishing among the top rookie receivers, gaining 805 yards in his first season with the Browns, he was again suspended for violating NFL’s substance-abuse policy in 2013. However, the same year was a breakout one for Gordon, as he became the first player in NFL’s history to record 200 receiving yards in back-to-back games, being named the Cleveland Chapter PFWA Player of the Year and selected to the Pro Bowl, as he led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards and scored nine touchdowns, being named First-Team All-Pro. His popularity among the Browns fans was boosted, as was his potential net worth.

In 2014 Gordon was suspended three more times, first time for being arrested on DUI charges, secondly for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, and the third time for violating team rules. The suspensions caused him to miss most of the season and led to his removal from Pro Bowl selection. Things got even worse in 2015; Gordon once again violated the league’s substance abuse rules, which resulted in his suspension for the entire season. When he applied for reinstatement in early 2016, the league declined, reporting another Gordon drug test failure. He was reinstated in mid-2016 and taken into the training camp, only to be suspended again for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.

Although the player has had quite a rough time while with the Browns, being suspended numerous times for various drug-related violations, he has still been considered among the team’s best players and has been enabled to earn significant wealth.

When it comes to his personal life, Gordon hasn’t been married yet, but, according to some sources, has a child with an ex-girlfriend. The player has recently made headlines after his failure to submit his DNA for a paternity test was made public, and an arrest warrant was issued. Reportedly, an Ohio woman filed a complaint in 2015, stating that Gordon is the father of her one-year-old child, and seeking a child support. A year later, the warrant was withdrawn as the player finally submitted his DNA, stating that he was unaware that he had been requested to take the test. The test results are expected to be returned before the hearing in November 2016.
