Wilson grew up in Danville, where he attended George Washington High School, playing for the school’s football team. In his senior year, he rushed for 2,291 yards and 35 touchdowns, both school records, earning first-team All-Group AAA honors. He was first-team all-district, all-metro and all-region selection as well as the Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2009 he was selected to play for USA Football’s Junior National Team, winning the IFAF Under-19 World Championship that took place in Canton, Ohio, that year.

While attending George Washington, he was also a sprinter and jumper for the school’s track team, winning the national championship in the triple jump at the 2009 Nike Indoor Meet, and capturing first place at the 2009 WV District Championships in the 100 meters.

Later that year Wilson enrolled at Virginia Tech, joining the school’s football team – The Hookies. He became the team’s starting running back in 2011, finishing the season with 1,709 rushing yards on 290 carries, a school record, earning the 2011 ACC Offensive Player of the Year honor and the Dudley Award. He was selected second-team All-American and unanimous first-team All-ACC. He also continued with his track and field performances, capturing third place at the VT Indoor Challenge in the long jump, and first place in the triple jump at the Miami Invitational and Liberty Twilight in 2010. The following year he took sixth place in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships, earning his first career All-America honor.

In 2012 Wilson was selected in the first round as the 32nd overall pick by the New York Giants in the 2012 NFL Draft; the team signed him to a four-year deal worth $6.68 million, including a club option for a fifth-year and a $3.3 million signing bonus. His net worth was established. He went on to set the franchise record for all-purpose yards in a single game, with 327 all-purpose yards in the game against the New Orleans Saints in late 2012. By returning four kickoffs for 227 yards and running for 100 yards with two touchdowns on just 13 carries, he became the first player in the history of the NFL to accumulate 200 kick return yards and 100 rushing yards, and the second player since 1970 with two rushing touchdowns and a kick return touchdown in one single game. His performances greatly contributed to his popularity.

The following year saw Wilson on the injured reserve list, due to a spinal stenosis which threatened to severely damage his neck if he continued to play football. A year later he underwent neck surgery, being ruled out for the year shortly afterwards from another injury. Due to his neck condition, he retired from professional football later that year after less than two seasons in the NFL, but his brief tenure in the NFL considerably added to his wealth.

After his football career was cut off, Wilson, being a nationally ranked triple jumper in high school and college, announced his plans to return to track and field. He attempted to make the US Olympic team for the 2016 Games in Rio, but failed to qualify. Meanwhile, he became involved in radio and television broadcasting for ESPN. All contributed to his net worth.

He is currently involved in writing, performing and recording Christian music, which has been another source of his wealth.

When it comes to his private life, Wilson is married to Stormy Wilson, with whom he has one child. The family resides in Atlanta.
