Who is Jonathan Roumie?

Jonathan was born in New York City, USA, on 1 July 1974 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor with more than 60 credits to his name, while he’s perhaps known best for his portrayal of the main character Jesus, in the historical series “The Chosen”. It was created by Dallas Jenkins, also stars Elizabeth Tabish and Shahar Isaac, and follows Jesus as seen through the eyes of those who were helped by him; the series has been airing since 2017, and has won one of the two awards for which it’s been nominated.

Early life and education

Jonathan was raised in New York City by his Irish mother, and his Egyptian father; nothing else is known about his parents, as Jonathan respects their privacy, but it’s said that his father was the owner of a small business, and that his mother worked in it.

In 2007, he was cast to play Jim Fellows in the popular romantic drama “As the World Turns”, created by Irna Phillips, and which starred Don Hastings, Elizabeth Hubbard and Colleen Zenk. The series follows the Stewart and Hughes families, and aired from 1956 to 2010, winning 90 of the 546 awards for which it was nominated. Jonathan appeared in only two other series in the 2000s: he played Richie Citrone in the 2008 episode “Excalibur” of the mystery crime drama “Law & Order”, and appeared in five episodes of the 2008 comedy “In the Now”.

In 2014, Jonathan played Serge Belmonde in the episode “Dressed to Kill” of the critically acclaimed crime comedy drama “Castle”, created by Andrew W. Marlowe, and which starred Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Susan Sullivan. It follows the novelist Richard ‘Rick’ Castle who’s helping the police catch a serial killer of people by imitating his novels’ plots; the series aired from 2009 to 2016, and won 20 of the 49 awards for which it was nominated, including four Primetime Emmy nominations.

Three of Jonathan’s most recent roles in TV series have been in the 2017 episode “Danny in Real Life” of the comedy “The Mindy Project”, the 2019 episode “Players Only” of the sports comedy drama “Ballers”, and the 2020 episode “A Needle in the Heart” of the drama “Chicago Med”.

Jonathan made his debut film appearance in the 2001 short drama “Be My Brother”, while a couple of his following roles were in the 2005 romantic comedy drama “Prime”, the 2006 comedy “Oh! Be Joyful!”, and the 2007 action crime drama “West 32nd”.

He gained recognition when he appeared in the hit 2008 romantic drama “Revolutionary Road”, directed by Sam Mendes, and which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Christopher Fitzgerald. It follows a couple from Connecticut who are trying to raise their two children in the 1950s; the movie won 20 of the 96 awards for which it was nominated, including three Oscar nominations.

In 2012, Jonathan was cast to play Rookie Stewart in the drama “K-11”, and the year 2013 saw him star in three short films: “A Day in the Country”, “Half-Life: Raise the Bar” and “Lunar”.

Most recently, in 2021 Jonathan voiced one of the lead characters in the animated drama “Washingtonia”, written by R. J. Fried, and which also starred Gary Cole and Thomas Lennon. It’s about an incompetent politician and his colleagues, who are working in Washington D.C.

Between 1998 and 2007, Jonathan worked as a location scout on more than 30 movies, with some of the most popular amongst these having been the 2000 crime horror drama “American Psycho”, the 2001 comedy “Zoolander” and the 2004 action science fiction adventure “Spider-Man 2”.

Jonathan has been deeply religious since his teenage years, and he became even more focused on religion after having been cast to play Jesus in “The Chosen”; he’s today a ministry leader of the Catholic Church, and has also served as extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He was nominated for a Papal knighthood by the Order of St. Gregory the Great in 2020.
