In 2008, Isner was unable to achieve great successes. In all four Grand Slam tournaments, he failed each in the first round. His best result was reaching the quarter-finals in San Jose, and ended the year ranked 144th. Other achievements included the quarter-finals in Houston, the second round at the Masters tournaments in Montreal and Washington, as well as the second round at the US Open, and he ended the year 2009 in the position 34 in the world rankings. 2010 Isner started with his first tournament victory on the ATP Tour, in Auckland beating Arnaud Clément in the final. At the Australian Open, he reached the second round in which he won against the strong British Andy Murray. In February, he won his second doubles title alongside Sam Querrey. In 2012, Isner defeated in the Masters tournament the number one ranked tennis player – Novak Djokovic. In the final he met Roger Federer whom he also defeated. Afterwards, he appeared in ninth position in the world rankings. He is still keeping the pace, up to date, having accumulated 10 ATP Tour titles, and finished runner-up 20 times.
