John Grisham  but spent most of his childhood travelling until his family settled down in Mississippi. He first enrolled at college in Senotobia, Mississippi, but then attended Delta State University in Cleveland, before actually graduating from Mississippi State University in 1977 with a BS degree in accounting. He later graduated in 1981 with a JD degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law with his main interest in general civil litigation.

Before his rise to fame as an author, Grisham worked a variety of jobs, including a salesclerk, a plumbing contractor and others. Grisham subsequently practised law ten years, and was also elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1984-90. Both of these sub-careers profited his net worth, however, Grisham’s job as a lawyer came to a halt in 1991, with the successful release of the novel “The Firm”. Prior to that, Grisham tried to publish his first book called “A Time to Kill” but met with 28 rejections by publishers until it was picked up by Wynwood Press, and “The Firm” followed soon after that. With initial focus on law and attorneys, Grisham began expanding his topics and settings, and presented his novel “A Painted House”, which is set outside of the legal thriller genre. The novel was soon adapted into a movie, where the main characters were portrayed by Logan Lerman and Scott Glenn.

So far, John Grisham has written 27 books, a “Theodore Boone” series that consists of four novels, one book of short stories, as well as two non-fiction works. An author of legal thriller and crime fiction novels, John Grisham has now sold over 275 million copies and is considered to be one of the most successful writers, and his net worth has benefited accordingly.

Further, the majority of John Grisham’s novels have been adapted into movies. The first was  “The Firm” which was released in 1993 and had Tom Cruise play one of the lead roles. The most recent is “Christmas with the Kranks” released in 2004. Three more movies based on Grisham’s works are to be releasded in the future, namely “The Associate”, “The Testament” and “Calico Joe”. In addition to that, three of his novels have been adapted into television series, which are “The Client”, “The Street Lawyer” and more recently “The Firm” with Josh Lucas and Molly Parker.

In John Grisham’s personal life, he has been married to Renee since 1981, and they have two children. Grisham’s contributions to the literary world have been rewarded with the “John Grisham Room”, an archive of his written works kept at the Mississippi State University Libraries.

Quotes

#Quote
1I grew up in a very small, close-knit, Southern Baptist family, where everything was off-limits. So I couldn't wait to get to college and have some fun. And I did for the first two years. And I regret a lot of it, because my grades were in terrible shape. I never got in serious trouble, except for my grades.
