Jake Smollett launched his career as a diaper model when he was only three months old, while he made his debut TV appearance as Jake in the episode “Miracle In Oaktown” of the ABC sitcom “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper” in 1992, when he was only three years old. His big break came when he starred next to his brothers and sisters in another ABC sitcom, entitled “On Our Own”, in which he landed the role of Joc Jerrico.
The series was created by David W. Duclon and broadcast for a single season from 1994 to 1995 – for his performance, Jake received a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor Under Ten in a TV Series.
