Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on 13 August 1926, in Birán, Holguin Province, Cuba, into a wealthy farming family. Fidel Castro is known world-wide as the Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and President from 1976 to 2008.

So just how rich is Fidel Castro? Sources have estimated that Castro’s net worth is $900 million, most of his wealth has been accumulated during his career as a Cuban politician, and making him one of the richest people in Cuba.

Fidel Castro Net Worth $900 Million

Fidel Castro’s father, Angeles Castro, was the owner of sugar cane plantation, but his mother, Lina Eng Gonzales, worked as a cook. In 1945 Fidel registered in the Faculty of Law of the University of Havana, and during his studies became involved in the revolutionary movement. In 1947 Castro participated in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow Dictator Rafael Trujillo, but still in 1950 he graduated from the with a doctorate in law, and the same year joined the Communist Party of Cuba. Castro organized the struggle against the dictatorship, and in 1953 led the revolution in Santiago de Cuba, after which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was released after a year and went to Mexico, where he founded the July 26th movement. with the continuing goal of overthrowing the Cuban dictatorship.

With the growing number of partisans, in 1959 Castro successfully fought against the demoralized, poorly led army of President Batista, and as the definite Revolution leader, Fidel Castro became the commander of the army, and the same year Cuba’s prime minister. With this leadership Fidel Castro’s net worth was  to increase steadily. In 1959 Castro announced Cuba to be a socialist republic, with private business and industry nationalized. Since this was the only communist country in America, signing trade agreements with the Soviet Union. Cuba immediately became a Cold War confrontation object between the Soviet Union and the United States, resulting in the abortive Bay of Pigs landing by anti-revolutionaries in 1961, and the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. (In 1961 the United States cut off diplomatic relations with Cuba, only restored in 2015.)

Fidel Castro remained prime minister until 1976, when the new constitution was created by the National Assembly, and he became  the State Council chairman. He also kept command of the army and the Cuban Communist Party General Secretary posts, which has helped Fidel to increase his net worth. In 2006 due to deteriorating health of Fidel Castro, his brother Raul Castro took over the position of President. In 2008 it was announced that Fidel will not accept another presidential term and his brother Raul was elected as the country’s President, Castro remained First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba until 2011. According to ‘Forbes’ magazine, Fidel Castro became the richest person in Cuba. In fact, reports of Castro big assets could be justified, as he had the control of almost all sectors of the economy in Cuba, and his net worth rose during all the years he was in power.

Fidel Castro has married twice and has nine children. His first marriage with Mirta Diaz-Balart lasted from 1948 to 1955. He has been married to Dalia Soto del Valle since 1980.

#Quote
1More than 820 million people in the world suffer from hunger; and 790 million of them live in the Third World.
2No thieves, no traitors, no interventionists! This time the revolution is for real!
3Men do not shape destiny, Destiny produces the man for the hour.
4The revolution is a dictatorship of the exploited against the exploiters.
5My idea, as the whole world knows, is that the capitalist system now doesn't work either for the United States or the world, driving it from crisis to crisis, which are each time more serious.
6I never saw a contradiction between the ideas that sustain me and the ideas of that symbol, of that extraordinary figure, Jesus Christ.
7They talk about the failure of socialism but where is the success of capitalism in Africa, Asia and Latin America?
8I began revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action.
9There is not Communism or Marxism, but representative democracy and social justice in a well-planned economy.
10I find capitalism repugnant. It is filthy, it is gross, it is alienating... because it causes war, hypocrisy and competition.
11A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past.
12I neither will aspire to nor will I accept, the position of president of the council of state and commander in chief.
13Capitalism is using its money; we socialists throw it away.
14I think that a man should not live beyond the age when he begins to deteriorate, when the flame that lighted the brightest moment of his life has weakened.
15I am a Marxist Leninist and I will be one until the last day of my life.
16The universities are available only to those who share my revolutionary beliefs.
17I am Fidel Castro and we have come to liberate Cuba.
18North Americans don't understand... that our country is not just Cuba; our country is also humanity.
19A revolution is not a bed of roses.
20There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust.
21The revenues of Cuban state-run companies are used exclusively for the benefit of the people, to whom they belong.
22Sorry, I'm still a dialectical materialist.
23How can we help President Obama?
24I am not a communist and neither is the revolutionary movement.
25I would not vote for the mayor. It's not just because he didn't invite me to dinner, but because on my way into town from the airport there were such enormous potholes.
26I don't think anyone has been slandered more than the Jews.
27[text from a famous 1953 speech. The last line is considered his most famous quote ever] "I know that imprisonment will be harder for me than it has ever been for anyone, filled with cowardly threats and hideous cruelty. But I do not fear prison, as I do not fear the fury of the miserable tyrant who took the lives of 70 of my comrades. Condemn me. It does not matter. History will absolve me."
28[from a 1957 NY Times interview] Power does not interest me. After victory I want to go back to my village and just be a lawyer again.
