Ed O’Bannon spent his childhood with younger brother Charles – also a professional basketball player with the Detroit Pistons – in his hometown, where he attended Artesia High School. There, he began playing basketball and excelled in it, as he finished his high school career averaging 24.6 points, and 9.7 rebounds per game, andmainly thanks to him, the team won the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division II state championship. His skills led him to become named the most valuable player (MVP) at the Dapper Dan Classic, a McDonald’s High School All-American, and to a high school All-Star game. He had a plan to become a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), but he enrolled at UCLA, from which he graduated in 2011 with a BA degree in History.
