Born in Saranac Lake, New York State, Ratigan is the son of John Ratigan and Adrienne Dodge, from Irish through his father, and Italian and Hungarian Jewish descent through his mother, who raised him alone. He was later educated at Union College in Schenectady, graduating with a degree in political economy.

Ratigan got into journalism right after college, with a job at Bloomberg News Service. He started at the company covering news in finance, including Mergers and Acquisitions, IPOs and the stock market. Years later he became the company’s Global Managing Editor for Corporate Finance. His early years in Bloomberg started his career in finance journalism, and also helped considerably in his net worth.

While working at Bloomberg, Ratigan also started venturing into television. In 2006, he became the host and co-creator of the show “Fast Money”, then spent over a year and a half at CNBC’s “Bullseye”, and also worked as a co-anchor in “Closing Bell” and “The Call”. In 2009, he decided to leave “Fast Money” due to his strong feelings of how the government was handling the financial crisis during 2008.

In June 2009, Ratigan started a new show at MSNBC entitled “Morning Meeting”, that later became “The Dylan Ratigan Show”, and one of the highest rating programs of the network, despite not being broadcast in primetime. After four years, he decided to leave the show, but his time in television catapulted him into the spotlight for his honest and aggressive reporting, and also tremendously increased his wealth.

After his time in television, Ratigan focused on writing, and released his book in 2012 – “Greedy Bastards”. He also contributes to various newspapers and news platforms, including The New York Times, The Miami Herald, Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post.

Today, Ratigan has his own business and still work as a commentator. He is the founder of Helical Holdings, a company that focuses on hydroponic farming. He is also a regular on tastytrade.com’s “Truth of Skepticism” with Tom Sosnoff. Recently, he joined “The Young Turkes” as one of its commentators. These involvements have also helped in his net worth.

In terms of his personal life, Ratigan is still single, with no rumours of any relationships.
