Early life, family, and education
Carly was raised in Vancouver, by her parents Kathleen and Dale Pope; once she spoke about her childhood saying: ‘I grew up in Point Grey but there’s something about the East Side… it’s a little more dynamic. We always spent a lot of time out there when I was growing up, too. My mom is Italian so we had that connection. My heart is in East Vancouver.’
She has two brothers, the younger Alexander, and older Kris who is also an actor, perhaps known best for his role in the series “Dark Angel”.
Carly was a passionate dancer from an early age, and trained to dance as a child, which lead to her love for performing and acting. So during her high school days, she started acting with the school’s drama club, in classic plays such as “The Odd Couple” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
She attended Lord Byng High School, and upon matriculating in 1998, enrolled at the University of British Columbia, however, she studied for just one semester, then dropped out of college to pursued her acting career.
Roles in movies
Carly made her acting debut in the short movie “A Girl’s Guide to Kissing and other Nightmares in Teenland”, in 1996, and then two years later she was seen as a Cheerleader in “I’ve Been Waiting for You”, which was her debut in an American production movie, and after that, she portrayed Abbey in “Disturbing Behavior”, followed in 1999 by her role as Mari Ferraez in the TV movie “Our Guys: Outrage at Glen Ridge”.
