The following year he landed a role in the hit NBC sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes”, one of the top rated shows of the late ’70s and early ’80s, being cast as Sam McKinney. He joined the show for its seventh season, remaining until its cancellation in 1986. The role of McKinney earned him his first taste of fame, and a considerable net worth as well.

Meanwhile, he made appearances in other TV series, such as “The Twilight Zone”, “McGyver” and “Pound Puppies”. Following the end of “Diff’rent Strokes”, Cooksey landed a starring role in the CBS sitcom “The Cavanaughs”, playing Kevin Cavanaugh from 1986-1989. The role reinforced his popularity, greatly adding to his wealth. By the end of the decade, he had appeared in series such as “Werewolf” and “Growing Pains”, and also did extensive voice over work, providing his voice for animated series such as “Little Clowns of Happytown”, “Superman” and “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures”. All contributed to his net worth.

Opportunities continued to flow in during the ’90s, when the young actor gained additional popularity for being the voice of Montana Max in the animated series “Tiny Toon Adventures” and “The Plucky Duck Show”, while also providing his voice for other animated series, including “The Little Mermaid”, “101 Dalmations” and “Pepper Ann”. The ’90s also saw Cooksey appearing in one of the most successful films of the decade, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ as John Connor’s friend Tim.
