Damien Michael Woody was born on 3 November 1977, in Beaverdam, Virginia USA, and is a former American Football player, best known as an offensive lineman for the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and New York Jets in the National Football League (NFL).

Woody attended Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia, becoming a member of the school’s football team, the Patrick Henry Patriots, whom he helped to win the State Championship in 1994. He enrolled at Boston College, in Massachusetts, joining the school’s football team, the Eagles, and becoming an All-American and an All-Big East offensive lineman.

Woody was selected in the first round as the 17th overall pick by the New England Patriots in the 1999 NFL Draft. Being selected as a center, he started all 16 regular season games in his first season with the team, but would later switch to guard and also to tackle. Despite struggling with delivering the snap in the shotgun formation, Woody established himself as a valuable player. In 2001 he earned his first trip to the Super Bowl and was then selected to the Pro Bowl in the following year. His second selection to Super Bowl came in 2003, so helping his team to win two Super Bowls which greatly contributed to his popularity. Becoming a free agent, the player joined the Detroit Lions in 2004, being selected as a Pro Bowl alternate later that year.
