Coco studied as part of Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Program. In 1995 he began playing in the Senior Division RBI World Series, until he joined the 1999 MLB Draft, and was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for various Cardinal affiliates in the next two years before being named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year. In 2002 he played with the New Haven Ravens before being traded to the Cleveland Indians, playing with affiliates of the Indians before being called up to the major league.

Crisp became the starting center fielder for the Indians and quickly built his skills. He had a lot of success, as he also had a lot of competition to retain his position. He played with the team until 2005 when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He signed a $15.5 million contract extension with the Red Sox which increased his net worth significantly. In 2007, he struggled to play due to after effects from an injury to his left index finger, but shook it off and then made many impressive catches during the season. During the American League Championship Series, Crisp would be the person who made the catch to secure the team’s win en route to the World Series, and this would be the season that the Red Sox won the World Series as well. In 2008, the team would then reach the ALCS but lost the series.

Coco was then traded to the Kansas City Royals, and played one season with them, but struggling due to shoulder injuries. After going through surgery, he signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics worth $5 million for one year, which boosted his net worth further. He played well with the Athletics and was then given a two year $14 million deal. They reached the American League Division Series, but lost against the Detroit Tigers. In 2016, Coco was traded to Cleveland and would help the team win against the Boston Red Sox, reaching the World Series but would lose against the Chicago Cubs. He became a free agent after the 2016 season, and in 2017 is rumoured to have switched to coaching.

For his personal life, it is known that Coco is married to Maria and they have four children. The family lives in Desert Hot Springs, California. His nickname Coco was given by his sister as a tease and is based on the “Cocoa Krispies” cereal box. He used the nickname since the minor leagues, and it has stuck with him since – he officially changed his name to Coco Crisp in 2013.
