Christian started as a kart racer and would win a Formula Renault scholarship in 1991. The following year, he competed in the British Formula Renault Championship, winning a race as part of Manor Motorsport. In 1993, he moved to British Formula Three and would win five races for P1 Motorsport, and then drove for Fortec and ADR in the next two years. In 1996, he raced with the TOM team, and also competed in British Formula Two, moving up to Formula 3000 and staying there until 1998, when he decided to retire and focus more on the Arden team. At this point, his success with the development of the team helped in increasing his net worth.
At the age of 25, he signed Viktor Maslove and Marc Goossens to be part of the 1999 FIA F3000 season. Arden would compete in the Italian F3000 and would get second place thanks to Warren Hughes. In 2002, they changed their driver line-up and would get five victories and the Team Championship, retaining it the following year. In 2004, Arden’s driver Vitantonio Liuzzi dominated the F3000 and won both the Constructors and Drivers Championship titles.
At this point, Horner was looking for an opportunity to move into Formula One, and in 2005 he was appointed the head of the Jaguar F1 Team which became Red Bull Racing after the energy drink company’s purchase. He became the youngest Team Principal and the team had a good start – in 2006, the team would get its first podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix despite unreliable engines.
In the next few years, the team would suffer problems but would have a strong finish in the 2009 Constructors’ Championship. In 2010 Sebastian Vettel would become the youngest World Champion and Horner would become the youngest Team Principal to win a Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship. They won a second Championship in 2011 making Vettel the youngest double champion, and continued this streak in 2012 and 2013, solidifying Vettel and the team’s status. At this point, Christian’s net worth had significantly increased.
The Red Bull team has taken second place behind Mercedes in the last two seasons, with Australian Daniel Ricardo taking third position behind the rival’s two drivers.
In 2013, Horner was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) thanks to his achievements.
For his personal life, it is known that he has a daughter with former partner Beverly Allen. He has been married to former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell since 2015, and they have a son.
