Born and raised in Golden Beach, Oregon, Wilson is the daughter of Kathy and Dale Wilson. She started as a sporty kid, playing volleyball in high school at Golden Beach High School, until she decided to join Miss Oregon. She ended up winning the competition and continued to win Miss Teen USA in 1990, becoming the second person to win from Oregon.

After winning the acclaimed competition, Wilson flew to Los Angeles and took up acting classes to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress. After only a year she ended up landing a role in the daytime television show “Santa Barbara” in which she played the role of Lisa Fenimore Castillo. In terms of her personal life, Wilson is married to tennis player Pete Sampras and together they have two children, Christian and Ryan.
