Billy Donovan Net Worth $14 Million

Billy Donovan grew up in his hometown, as the son of Joan Donovan and Bill Donovan, Sr., who was a soccer player and coach. He went to St. Agnes Cathedral High School, where he began playing basketball for the school team. As a senior, he led the team to win the Long Island Catholic High School Championship. Upon matriculation, he enrolled on a scholarship at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, where he continued to distinguish himself as a basketball player for the Providence Friars men’s basketball team. In his senior year, he averaged 20.6 points and the team won the 1987 Final Four, so he was named the Southeast Regional Most Valuable Player, the 1987 All-Big East first team, and All-American.

In no time, Billy’s professional playing career began, when he was selected in the third round of the 1987 NBA Draft as the 68th overall pick by the Utah Jazz; however, he was waived before the season began and he signed a contract with the Wyoming Wildcatters of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), which marked the beginning of an increase of his net worth. Afterwards, he was transferred to the New York Knicks, spending there the 1987-1988 season, after which he became a part of the Rapid City Thrillers of the CBA, finishing his playing career there in 1989.

In the same year Billy’s collegiate coaching career began, as he became a graduate assistant coach at the University of Kentucky, alongside Rick Pitino. He began slowly to build his coaching career, and during the next season, he was promoted to assistant coach and later to associate head coach. In 1994, he left the team in order to become the head basketball coach at Marshall University, where he won the Southern Conference North Division title and he was named the 1995 Southern Conference Coach of the Year. In 1996, he moved to the University of Florida, signing a contract over the next six years, which added a considerable amount to his net worth. Billy stayed with the team until 2015, and during that time, he led the team to win six SEC regular season champion titles, four SEC Tournament champion titles, four NCAA regional champion – Final Four titles, and two NCAA championships.

Parallel with his collegiate coaching career, Billy tried also to build his professional coaching career in 2007, when he was chosen to become the head coach for the Orlando Magic of the NBA. He signed a contract worth $27.5 million over the next five years; however, he changed his mind several days later and was released from his contract. Thus, he continued with coaching a college team until 2015, when he left it in order to work as the head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA, increasing his net worth by a large margin.

To speak further about Billy’s career, he is also known as the head coach of USA Basketball, a national team. He was the head coach for U18 team at the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championships in 2012 and 2014, and he also coached a team at the FIBA Under-19 World Championship in 2013, which contributed a lot to his wealth.

If to talk about his personal life, Billy Donovan has been married to Christine D’Auria since 1990; the couple has four children together. Their current residence is in Gainesville, Florida. In his free time, he collaborates with various charities such as the Florida Opportunity Scholars Program.
