Who is Bashir Salahuddin?

Bashir was born in Chicago, Illinois USA, on 6 July 1976 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor, film writer and producer, with close to 50 acting credits to his name, while he’s probably known best for his portrayal of Morgan Russell in the 2017 action adventure comedy movie “Snatched”. It was directed by Jonathan Levine, starred Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn and Kim Caramele, and follows a young woman who’s been dumped by her boyfriend right before they were about to go on an exotic vacation, while she’s now convinced her mother to go with her; the film won two of the four awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Bashir was raised in Chicago alongside his two sisters and three brothers, by their parents who met while they were both attending Southern Illinois University; his parents converted to Islam in the early ‘70s, but divorced sometime in the 2000s. His father worked for Midway Airlines as an airplane mechanic, and this meant that the family was able to occasionally travel free of charge. Bashir also has two younger half-siblings from his father’s new marriage.

He became interested in acting while attending a local high school, but his parents urged him to focus on his education, rather than to pursue acting straight away. He matriculated amongst the top of his class in in 1994, and then enrolled at Harvard University as a pre-medical student; Bashir graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1998.

He spent the following a couple of years appearing in various theatre plays, prior to launching his career on TV.

Roles in TV series

Bashir made his debut TV series appearance in the 2002 episode “Drew and the Life-Size Jim Thome Cut-Out” of the comedy “The Drew Carey Show”, and the following years saw him appear in an episode or two of various series, such as the mystery thriller drama “Threat Matrix”, the romantic comedy drama “Miss Match”, and the adventure comedy “Oliver Beene”.

Between 2009 and 2012, Bashir portrayed various characters in the hit musical comedy talk-show “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”, which starred Jimmy, The Roots and Steve Higgins, and which won seven awards, including two Primetime Emmys, and was nominated for 18 other awards.

Bashir’s also known for his portrayal of Malik in the critically acclaimed 2015 romantic comedy drama “Looking”, created by Michael Lannan, and which starred Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett. It follows three close friends who are living in San Francisco, California – the series won four of the 22 awards for which it was nominated.

Three of Bashir’s most recent roles have been in the 2022 episode “Dressed Down” of the animated comedy “American Dad!” (voice role), three episodes of the 2022 biographical mini-series “The Dropout” and the same year in the episode “May Cause an Excess of Ham” of the short animated adventure “Robot Chicken” (voice role).

Bashir made his debut film appearance in the 2006 drama “Jam”, and the same year saw him play the supporting character Willis in the crime horror thriller “Nailed”.

He eventualy gained recognition in 2016, when cast to play Malik in the comedy drama “Looking”, written and directed by Andrew Haigh, and which starred Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett. It follows Patrick who’s travelled back to San Francisco to meet his friends Kevin and Richie, and the movie was nominated for four awards.

Bashir’s also known for his portrayal of Detective Summerville in the 2018 mystery crime comedy “A Simple Favor”, directed by Paul Feig, and which starred Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively and Henry Golding. It follows single mother Stephanie who’s befriended upper-class woman Emily, and now that Emily’s gone missing, Stephanie’s taken it upon herself to find her; the movie won three of the nine awards for which it was nominated.

Three of Bashir’s most recent roles have been in the 2020 historical drama “The 24th”, the 2021 romantic musical drama “Cyrano”, and the 2022 action drama “Top Gun: Maverick”.

Bashir has 11 writing, seven producing and three directing credits; some of his most notable writing works include 464 episodes of the comedy show “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” between 2009 and 2014, 20 episodes of the comedy “South Side” between 2019 and 2021, and 10 episodes of the musical comedy “Sherman’s Showcase” between 2019 and 2022.

Even though Bashir prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself, it’s still widely known that he’s today a married man. He married American actress, film writer and producer Chandra Russell on 12 August 2017, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members; Chandra’s appeared in eight movies and TV series, and is probably known best for her portrayal of Officer Turner in the comedy series “South Side”, which aired from 2019 to 2021.

Bashir and Chandra have two children together, but tare keeping them away from the media’s attention.

Bashir hasn’t mentioned any other women whom he’s perhaps been with, so as of July 2022, he’s married to Chandra Russell, and they have two children together.

Bashir isn’t a big fan of social media networks, and isn’t active on any as he appreciates his privacy; there are, however, more than 1,200 pictures and videos featuring him uploaded onto Instagram today.

He’s passionate about travelling, and his career’s taken him to more than 10 US states, while he’s also vacationed in various European countries together with his wife; his dream travel destination is Berlin, Germany.

Bashir and his wife are philanthropists, and have donated money to a couple of charity organizations aiming to help underprivileged children. They are also animal lovers, and have donated to animal shelters.

Bashir has his own favorite actor and actress, Will Smith and Kate Winslet, while some of his favorite movies include “Independence Day”, “Men in Black” and “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”.
