Cole started off by joining Arsenal, his local club in 1997. He made his debut in 1999 in a lost game against Middlesbrough. However, playing for Arsenal, he won the Premier League twice, in 2002 and 2004, and FA Cup three times as well. Despite suffering an injury in the 2005-06 season, Ashley fully recovered in a short period of time and was able to play in UEFA Champion’s League where Arsenal beat Barcelona. Overall, he scored nine goals. However, he left the team in during the next year and went on to play for Roma, signing a two-year contract; his Roma debut was on 30 August and his team won 2-0 in a match against Fiorentina, but he terminated his contract with Roma in January 2016, and joined the LA Galaxy the following month, for which he still and plays to this day.
