Anne grew up in the campus of Stanford University, as her father worked as a physics professor emeritus in the school. She learned how to figure skate at a young age, and later decided to play ice hockey. She attended Gunn High School and during her time there worked as a part of the school’s newspaper, mainly covering sports stories which actually lead to a scholarship at Yale University. She went on to study biology at Yale, and also played on the varsity women’s ice hockey team, but was also still a competitive ice skater during this time. She subsequently did molecular biology research at the University of California, San Diego, and the National Institutes of Health, completing her studies in 1996.

Wojcicki went on to work as a part of the investment fund Passport Capital, in which she served as a health care consultant. The company is named after the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a normal human sell, and provides genetic testing.
