Binod Chaudhary was born on the 14th April 1955, in Kathmandu, Nepal, and is a businessman, best known to the world as the owner and President of the Chaudhary Group, a multinational conglomerate company that has business in numerous industries, but is perhaps best known for its Wai-Wai noodles.

One of three sons born to Lunkaran Das Chaudhary, and his wife Ganga Devi, Binod grew up in the nation’s capital, and took over the family business when Binod’s father was diagnosed with a heart condition, even though Binod was just 18 at the time. The history of family business traces back to Binod’s grandfather who was a textile trader and had a textile store. Once Binod’s father took over the store, he branded it Arun Emporium, and from a simple textile store he developed it into a department store, actually the first in Nepal.

Once Binod took the Arun Emporium into his own hands, he started expanding the business, almost literally knocking from door to door searching for new opportunities. His hard work paid off eventually, as Binod is now the richest person in Nepal. From a single store, he expanded his empire to 80 companies found on five continents and employing over 6000, with involvement in food, finance, banking, real estate, hotels, energy, retail and electronics, among other industries.

Aside from business, Binod has also been involved in politics, having held a spot in the constituent assembly and parliament of Nepal from April 2008 to May 2012.

Regarding his personal life, Binod is married to Sarika, with whom he has three sons.

Binod is also recognized for his philanthropic activities; he started the Chaudary Foundation through which he supports education, sports, health and other areas. He has started several scholarships, including Gyan Udaya, given to the needy students, then Samata Siksha Niketan, through which he has funded infrastructure improvement and also several health care programs, including CG Operation Dristi, and CG Medicare. Furthermore, he started the Gen Nep and Social Building Fund, through which he financially helps native Nepal people.
