As mentioned, he’s a rapper and a singer-songwriter, also a founder and the lead member of the record label and collective Only the Family (OTF); some of the otherartists associated are Ikey, DoodieLo and late rapper Dayvon Daquan Bennet, also known as King Von.


Lil Durk was raised in Englewood on the south side of Chicago by his single mother, since his father left the family when Lil Durk was seven months old. He talked about his childhood saying that it was hard, they were poor, and he was often hungry, although his mother did her best to provide for him.

He attended Paul Robeson High School, but at the age of fifteen dropped out, joined the street gang, Black Disciples, and soon his troubles with the law started. He was arrested for possession of a firearm, and served a prison sentence in October 2011, but when he came out, he launched his music career, hoping that he wouldn’t go back on the street.

In the same year, he released his two singles “Sneak Dissin” and “I’ma Hitta”, followed by his third mixtape “Life Ain’t No Joke” in October 2012, which has been downloaded over 215,000 times on DatPiff, an online distribution platform.

Lil Durk has been a part of many controversies, both concerning his love and his personal life, known for several legal issues since his teenage years. After 2011, he was arrested in 2013 after he allegedly threw a loaded handgun into his car, when police stopped him during control, but he was released after almost a month since a witness appeared saying that the gun was his.

Two years later, a dead body was found in his tour bus after the gunfire, however, Lil Durk wasn’t arrested or questioned by police about this incident.

Lil Durk and the late rapper King Von were arrested on attempted murder charges in June 2019, accused of robbing and shooting a man in front of the drive-in in Atlanta, Georgia, and allegedly steeling a Jeep Cherokee and $30,000.


They were in jail for weeks, but then they were released on bonds of $300,000 (Lil Durk) and $250,000 (King Von).

He’s active on social media platforms, and his Instagram account has been followed by over 10 million people, and his Twitter profile has amassed nearly six million followers, while his eponymous YouTube channel has gained nearly four million subscribers.

Speaking about his love life and relationships, he’s now engaged to India Royale, his long-term girlfriend; he proposed to her at the Chicago Concert on 19 December 2021, and posted the video of his proposal onto his Instagram.

Lil Durk is 29 years old, with blonde dreads and dark brown eyes; he weighs around 160lbs (72kgs) and is 5ft 9ins (1.75m) tall.
