Who is Adria Arjona?

Actress and model Adria Arjona Torres, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on 25 April 1992, under the zodiac sign of Taurus. She’s an actress and film producer, with nearly 30 acting credits to her name, while she’s probably best known for her portrayal of Sofia Herrera in the 2022 romantic comedy movie “Father of the Bride”, directed by Gary Alazraki, and in which she starred alongside Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan; it follows a father whose daughter’s about to marry.

Education and early life

Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona and Puerto Rican housewife Leslie Torres raised their daughter Adria in San Juan, alongside her brother Ricardo; Adria often travelled with her father during his music tours, and was 12 when she began living in Miami, Florida, staying there for six years.

Adria fell in love with acting during her time in Miami, and practiced it with her high school’s drama club; she was also cast to appear in a couple of theatre plays, and eventually chose to pursue it as a career.

Upon matriculating in 2010, Adria enrolled at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2014; during those four years, she worked as a waitress to financially support herself.

Roles in movies

Adria’s debut film appearance was in the 2012 short drama “Loss a Short Film”, then in 2015, she was cast to play Patricia in the comedy “Wedding in New York”, written and directed by Alber Ponte, and in which she starred alongside Luis Tosar and Paloma Bloyd. It follows Gonzalo who was to attend a wedding instead of his friend Cheeky Carlos, however, Gonzalo’s now fallen in love with the bride.

Also in 2015, Adria starred in the short drama “Eos”, and then in 2016  portrayed Kate in the 2016 fantasy horror thriller “Anomalous”, and Leandra Florez in the horror thriller “The Belko Experiment”.

The year 2017 saw her play Jules Reyes in the critically acclaimed action adventure fantasy “Pacific Rim: Uprising”, written and directed by Steven S. Adria could then have been seen playing Amanda in the 2018 comedy “Life of the Party”, Yovanna in the 2019 action thriller “Triple Frontier”, and in the same year Five in the action thriller “6 Underground”.

The year 2020 saw her star as Surgeon in the short drama “Guardians of Life”, and the following year she played Amanda Cooper in the popular action thriller drama “Sweet Girl”, directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza, and which starred Jason Momoa, Isabela Merced and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. It follows a father who’s trying to avenge his wife’s death, while simultaneously protecting his daughter.

Adria’s most recent film role has been her portrayal of Martine Bancroft in the 2022 action adventure horror “Morbius”; she’s currently shooting for the upcoming movies “Los Frikis”, “Pussy Island” and “Hitman”.

Roles in TV series

Adria’s debut TV series role was her portrayal of Suzy Houchen in the 2014 episode “Cashing Out” of the mystery crime drama “Unforgettable”, and she then played Dani Silva in the 2014 episode “Point of Origin” and the 2015 episode “M. I. A.” of the critically acclaimed action crime drama “Person of Interest”. It was created by Jonathan Nolan, starred Jim Caviezel, Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman, and follows a programmer and a former CIA agent who are trying to rescue people with the help of AI; the series aired from 2011 to 2016, and won nine of its 32 award nominations.

Adria’s also known for her portrayal of Emily in six episodes (2015) of the mystery crime drama “True Detective”, which Nic Pizzolatto created, and which starred Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Each of the series’ three seasons follows the police investigation of a crime, it aired from 2014 to 2019, and won 35 of its 128 award nominations.

Adria could then have been seen playing Helena in the 2015 episode “The Sword of Simon Bolivar” of the biographical crime drama “Narcos”, Dorothy Gale in 10 episodes of the 2017 adventure fantasy drama “Emerald City”, and five episodes of the 2019 fantasy comedy “Good Omens”.

Husband Edgardo Canales

Even though Adria’s not into sharing the details of her love life with her fans, it’s still widely known that she’s today a married woman. She exchanged vows with Puerto Rican former lawyer and businessman Edgardo Canales on 31 August 2019, in a large ceremony attended by more than 150 of their friends and family members. Edgardo’s keeping himself away from media, but his LinkedIn account’s revealed that he earned his Juris Doctor degree in intellectual property law from the University of Puerto Rico in 2012, and that he’s been working at Prime Video & Amazon Studios as their business affairs manager since June 2022.

Adria hasn’t spoken of other men whom she dated prior to meeting Edgardo – she’s married to Edgardo Canales as of October 2022, and doesn’t have children.

Interesting facts and hobbies

One can say that Adria’s a social media star, as there are close to 900,000 people following her on Instagram, while she’s posted over 800 pictures and videos onto the social media network.

She’s also done a lot of modelling work, even though she thinks of it as a hobby rather than a job; Adria’s recently appeared on the cover page of the magazine “Vogue”.

She’s already been to more than 10 US states and a couple of South American and European countries, mostly for work, but also for vacationing; her favorite city to travel to is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
