Who is Sara Malakul Lane?

A model and actress who gained international recognition starring in Steven Seagal’s movie “Belly of the Beast”, Sara Malakul Lane was born under the zodiac sign of Aquarius on 1 February 1983, in Guam, an unincorporated territory of the United States in the North Pacific Ocean, thus she holds both Guam and American citizenship, although she comes from a family of Scottish and Thai descent. She has over 30 acting credits to her name, and besides the mentioned film, she is perhaps known best for her roles in “King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table”, “Jailbait”, and “Who’s Watching Oliver”, among others.

Early life, family, and education

Although born in Guam, Sara was raised in both the United Kingdom and Bangkok, Thailand, since her mother, Thapthim Malakul na Ayudhaya, is a Thai native, and her father, Alastair Lane, is a Scottish businessman. Sara has two brothers, Alex and Tommy.

Sara’s maternal grandfather, Mom Luang Pakthip Malakul, was an ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom, and is a descendant of the second monarch of Siam under the Chakri dynasty Rama II, which makes Sara a member of the current reigning dynasty of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Speaking of Sara’s educational background, upon matriculating in 2001, she enrolled at the New International School of Thailand (NIST), from which she graduated with an International Bachelor’s degree in 2005.

Modeling and acting career

Sara began modeling at the age of 14 represented by Bellazon, appearing in commercials for Nivea, Toyota, Himalaya Protein Shampoo, and Parachute Jasmine soap among others. For Galore magazine, she went nude, bathing in Top Ramen noodles.

She made her acting debut in 2000, portraying Tawanshine (Sunny) in the TV mini-series “Hua Jai Song Park”, and then made her first big-screen appearance with her breakthrough role as Jessica Hopper in “Belly of the Beast” alongside Steven Seagal, Monica Lo and Byron Mann in 2003.

In the following years, Sara starred in Thai-production movies, such as “Dumber Heroes” and “Phraw rak Khrap Phom” in 2005.

After graduation, Sara moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her acting career in Hollywood, and in 2008 she got her chance. Her first movie in the US production was “Tied in Knots”, followed by her roles in “Sharktopus”, “The Wayshower”, and the horror “12/12/12”, written and directed by Jared Cohn.

In 2014, Sara was cast to play Jessica in “Pretty Perfect”, followed by her role in “Pernicious”, before she portrayed Mandy in “Jurassic City”, alongside Kevin Gage, Vernon Wells and Ray Wise, and then she was seen in “Sun Choke”, “Shark Lake”, and “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” in 2015.

Sara portrayed Evelyn in another Jared Cohn’s horror “Buddy Hutchins”, before starring in “Wishing for a Dream”, “Beyond the Gates”, and “Shortwave” in 2016.

The same year, she was cast to play Liu in “Kickboxer: Vengeance” alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, and then she was seen as Sophia in the horror drama “Who’s Watching Oliver”, also starring Margaret Roche and Russell Geoffrey Banks, which had 12 award nominations and won six, with Sara was nominated for Fright Night Theatre Film Festival (FNTFF) Best Supporting Actress, and won the Vancouver Badass Film Festival Award Best Supporting Actress in 2017.

Sara had the lead role as Morgana in the action crime adventure “King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table”, and then she was seen as Scarlet in “Death Pool”, and as Lucy in “The Domicile”, all three directed by Jared Cohn, in 2017.

Sara has spoken about her roles in horror movies, saying: ‘I just love being put in these crazy situations that I hope don’t really happen to me in real life – it’s fun and crazy.  I’m a big fan of horror movies, and there is something about lying in a pool of blood that just makes for a great day at the office.’

In the following year, she reprised her role as Liu in “Kickboxer: Retaliation”, and starred in “Shangri-La: Near Extinction” and “All About the Afterglow”, while her most recent role was her portrayal of Sunny in the 2020 mystery thriller “Captured”, also starring Andrew Ng and Oliver Williams.

Love life and relationships

Sara hasn’t been the subject of any rumors and controversies concerning her love life, and prefers to keep her personal matters away from the public eye.

She hasn’t spoken about any previous relationships before she met her future fiancée, Patrick Y-Kin Grove, a Singapore native, Australian entrepreneur, media and internet businessman, with whom she was dating for a few years before he proposed to her. According to sources, Patrick was previously married, but doesn’t have children from that marriage.

Sara hasn’t spoken about their wedding, and although some sources cite Patrick as her husband, she hasn’t confirm that they tied the knot, however, she shared with her fans that they became parents on 22 April 2020, when she gave birth to their son named Zander.
