Who is Jacki Weaver?
Jacqueline Ruth ‘Jacki’ Weaver was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 25 May 1947 – her zodiac sign is Gemini, and she holds Australian nationality. She’s an actress with close to 100 credits to her name, while she’s perhaps known best for her portrayal of Dolores Solitano in the critically acclaimed 2012 romantic comedy movie “Silver Linings Playbook”, written and directed by David O. Russell, and which starred Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro. It follows former teacher Pat Solitano who’s just been released from a mental institution, and is trying to reconnect with his former wife and friends; the movie won 90 awards, including an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Jennifer Lawrence), while it was nominated for 148 other awards.
Early life and education
Jacki was raised in Sydney alongside her brother Rod Weaver, by their father Arthur Weaver who was an Australian solicitor, and their mother Edith (nee Simpson) who was British and a housewife.
Jacki became interested in acting while attending a local elementary school, mostly because she often watched movies and TV series with her parents at home; she was a member of her school’s drama club, and appeared in a couple of plays performed there.
She enrolled at Hornsby Girls’ High School in 1961, and two years later made her debut film appearance, starring as Gretel in the drama “Hansel and Gretel”.
Jacki continued acting during her time at high school; she matriculated in 1965 and although she had received a college scholarship, Jacki chose not to pursue a degree, but to focus on making a name for herself in the film industry.
Roles in movies
In 1964, Jacki played a supporting character in the drama “Split Level”, and a couple of her following roles were in the 1966 romantic adventure comedy “They’re a Weird Mob”, the 1967 comedy “The Schoolmistress”, and the 1971 comedy “Stork”.
What marked the ‘70s for Jacki was perhaps her portrayal of Minnie in the 1975 mystery drama “Picnic at Hanging Rock”, directed by Peter Weir, and which starred Rachel Roberts, Anne-Louise Lambert and Vivean Gray. It tells the story of several students and their teacher from an Australian girls’ school who vanished during a summer picnic; the movie won five awards, including a BAFTA for Best Cinematography, while it was nominated for 12 other awards.
A couple of Jacki’s most notable performances in the ‘80s were in the 1982 biographical crime drama “Squizzy Taylor”, the 1983 animated science fiction fantasy “Abra Cadabra” (voice role), and the 1985 comedy “The Perfectionist”.

She appeared in only two movies in the ‘90s: the 1996 musical comedy drama “Cosi”, and the 1997 short fantasy drama “The Two-Wheeled Time Machine”. The first decade of the new millennium saw her appear in three films: the 2007 drama “Hammer Bay”, the 2008 comedy drama “Three Blind Mice”, and the 2009 short comedy “Early Checkout”.
In 2013, Jacki portrayed Gwendolyn Stoker in the critically acclaimed thriller drama “Stoker”, directed by Park Chan-wook, and which starred Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode. It follows India whose father has just passed away, while her mysterious Uncle Charlie, whom she’s never seen before, has now come to live with her and her mother; the movie won four of the 49 awards for which it was nominated.
Three of Jacki’s most recent roles have been in the 2020 biographical drama “Penguin Bloom”, the 2021 animated adventure comedy “Back to the Outback” (voice role), and the 2022 biographical drama “Father Stu”.
Roles in TV series
Jacki made her debut TV series appearance in a 1966 episode of the drama “Be Our Guest”, and the following years saw her appear in an episode or two of various series, such as the fantasy horror drama “Wandjina!”, the adventure “Riptide” and the drama “Woobinda, Animal Doctor”.
Between 1971 and 1976, Jacki played four characters in four episodes of the crime drama “Matlock Police”, created by Ian Jones and Terry Stapleton, and which starred Vic Gordon, Paul Cronin and Michael Pate. It follows the lives of several police officers working in a small town, and the series won two awards. Some of her other notable performances in the ‘70s were in the action crime drama “Homicide”, the comedy “The Dick Emery Show in Australia”, and the action crime drama “Cop Shop”.
What marked the ‘80s for her was her portrayal of Rasa Bertrand in the 1987 action sports mini-series “The Challenge”, which starred John Wood, Lorraine Bayly and Nicholas Hammond, and follows the Australian team which competed in the 1983 America’s Cup challenge; the mini-series was nominated for three awards.
Jacki didn’t appear in any TV series in the ‘90s, and in only a single in the 2000s, as she played Gillian in the episodes “Gene Therapy” and “All Those Monkeys” of the drama “Satisfaction”.

Three of her most recent TV series roles have been in all the 10 episodes of the 2019 crime comedy drama “Perpetual Grace, LTD”, seven episodes of the 2020 mystery science fiction drama “Bloom”, and five episodes of the popular 2022 western drama “Yellowstone”, which has won five of the 26 awards for which it’s been nominated.

She was also nominated for two Oscars for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in 2011 and 2013, for “Animal Kingdom” and “Silver Linings Playbook”, respectively.
Love life and spouse
Jacki’s married five times, while there are also four other men whom she’s been in a relationship with, that the public knows about. She was married to David Price from 1966 to 1970, and in the same year (1970) gave birth to her and her partner John Walters’ son. Jacki was in a relationship with Australian stage actor Richard Bruce Wherrett from 1971 to 1974, and was married to Max Hensser from 1975 to 1977. From 1977 to 1981, she was in a relationship with Phil Davis.
She married her third husband, New-Zealand born Australian actor and politician Derryn Hinch in 1983 – their divorce was finalized in 1998. Since 2003, Jacki’s been married to Sean Taylor.
As of August 2022, Jacki’s married to her fourth husband Sean Taylor, and has a son born in 1970, whose father is her former boyfriend John Walters.
Hobbies and other interests
Jacki’s been a philanthropist since the launch of her career, and ha donated money to various charity organizations, mostly to those which aim to improve the quality of life for underprivileged children.
She’s passionate about writing, and published her autobiography “Much Love, Jac” in 2005.
One of Jacki’s favorite hobbies is travelling, and her career’s taken her all around the world, while her dream travel destination is Venice, Italy.
She’s a lover of animals, and has had many pet cats.
