Who is Mark Wystrach?

American actor and country music musician Mark Wystrach, was born in Sonoita, Arizona USA, on 17 December 1979, meaning that his zodiac sign Sagittarius. He’s had roles in nearly 20 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for playing Gary Paxton in the 2021 biographical romantic movie “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”, directed by Michael Showalter, and which starred Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield and Cherry Jones. It follows the life of Tammy Faye Bakker, and the movie won 23 of its 66 award nominations, including two Oscar wins for Best Achievement in Make-up and Hairstyling, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Jessica Chastain).

Mark, his twin brother Mike and their sister Alex Flanagan were raised in Sonoita by their parents, about whom only a little is known because Mark respects their privacy; it’s believed that their father was also a country singer, and that their mother was a housewife.

Mark fell in love with acting while attending Tucson’s Salpointe Catholic High School; he was a member of the school’s drama club, and was also interested in sports, as he played soccer and lacrosse for the school teams.

Mark matriculated in 1998, and then didn’t go on to college, but worked several jobs to financially support himself, prior to launching his acting career.

Mark’s debut film role was his playing of Burley Construction Worker in the 2001 family comedy “The Retrievers”, directed by Paul Schneider, and which starred Robert Hays, Mel Harris and Alan Rachins. It follows Tom, Karen and their two children who’ve just moved to a small town in Northern California, and have adopted the pregnant golden retriever Pilot.

Mark’s following movie role came in 2006, when he was cast to play Phillips Minion in the romantic fantasy comedy “Just My Luck”, directed by Donald Petrie, and which starred Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine and Samaire Armstrong. It tells the story of lucky woman Ashley from Manhattan, New York City, who’s just realized that she’s swapped her luck with a not-so-lucky man; the film was nominated for seven awards.

The same year, Mark could have been seen playing Sean in the fantasy drama “G. I. Jesus”, then Doug Anders in the 2009 short action thriller “The Honeysting”, and Mike in the 2011 drama “Exteriors”.

The year 2013 saw him play Clone in the science fiction action thriller “Scavengers”, written and directed by Travis Zariwny, and which starred Sean Patrick Flanery, Jeremy London and Louise Linton. It follows the crew of a spaceship, who’ve just learned of an alien technology that could destroy the entire universe.

Mark’s three most recent film roles have been in 2017, in the  music video “Midland: Drinkin’ Problem” and drama “Johnny Christ”, and then in the 2020 action horror “Road to Red”.

Mark’s debut TV series role was his playing of Fox Crane in 143 episodes (2006 and 2007) of the drama “Passions”, which James E. Reilly created, and which starred Galen Gering, McKenzie Westmore and Lindsay Hartley. It follows the rich Crane family as they’re ruling the city of Harmony, the series aired from 1999 to 2008 and won 18 of its 108 award nominations.

Mark could then have been seen playing Patrick Austin in the 2007 episode “Guerillas in the Mist” of the action crime drama “CSI: Miami”, Kamen Rider Wrath in eight episodes of the action drama “Kame Rider: Dragon Knight”, and Tyler Crawford in the 2011 episode “Nerdy Little Secrets” of the romantic comedy drama “90210”.

He’s had only one other TV series role: he portrayed Model in the 2011 episode “A Hole in Her Niqab” of the popular crime comedy drama “Weeds”, which was created by Jenji Kohan, and starred Alexander Gould, Hunter Parrish and Mary-Louise Parker. It follows a woman whose husband’s died, and who’s now begun selling marijuana to financially support herself and her children; the series aired from 2005 to 2012, and won 17 of its 116 award nominations.

Other credits

Mark produced the 2021 documentary movie “Midland: The Sonic Ranch”.

He sung songs in a 2017 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, the 2020 documentary movie “Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets”, and the 2021 biographical romantic movie “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”.

Mark and his colleagues were nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2018, for Best Country Song (“Drinkin’ Problem”) and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

Mark’s more or less open when it comes to sharing details of his love life with his fans – he’s today married to American non-celebrity Ty Haney. The two met sometime in the mid-2010s, and although Ty prefers to stay away from media, it’s widely known that she’s an entrepreneur and animal rights activist. It was on 28 May 2019 that Mark proposed to Ty, and they married on 8 October of the same year, in a small and private ceremony attended by not more than 150 of their friends and family members.

On 21 November 2019, Ty gave birth to their daughter Sundance ‘Sunny’ Leon, and their son Champie Arizona followed on 5 December 2021.

Mark hasn’t mentioned the women whom he had perhaps dated prior to meeting Ty, to whom he’s married as of November 2022, and they have two children together.

Mark’s the lead singer of the country band Midland; they were formed in 2014, and the other band members are Cameron Duddy on the bass guitar, and Jess Carson on the guitar. They’ve released two albums – “On the Rocks” and “Let It Roll” – and two extended plays, “Midland” and “The Last Resort”.

Mark’s quite popular on Instagram, and there are nearly 120,000 people following him on the social media network today, while he’s uploaded close to 3,000 pictures and videos, most of which feature him performing music, and spending time with his family.

He spends a lot of time at the gym, thus his muscular body.

Summer seems to be Mark’s favorite season, as he enjoys being close to the ocean, and yachting.

His favorite actors are Jack Nicholson and Tommy Lee Jones, and some of his favorite movies include “The Bucket List”, “The Pledge” and “About Schmidt”.
