Vincent is the son of Italian immigrant John A. Viola and his wife, Virginia. His father was a truck driver, but joined US Army in the European theater of WWII, which had a great influence on young Vincent. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, and after matriculation was appointed to the United States Military Academy, from where he graduated with bachelor’s degree, and commissioned as second lieutenant in the US Army. He then attended Infantry Officer Basic Course and Ranger School, after which he served with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, where he was stationed for the next several years. After leaving army he received juris doctor degree from New York Law School, however, he didn’t complete the bar exam.

He started his business career in the early ‘80s, raising $10,000 to purchase a seat on the New York Mercantile Exchange. As the years passed, Vincent’s position in NYMEX increased and he became vice president in 1993, and held the position until 1996. Then five years later he became chairman of the organization, and held that position until 2004, which considerably increased his wealth.

In the ‘80s he also started several firms on his own, including the Pioneer Futures, which is a futures commission merchant firm, and then the following year the Independent Bank Group, a regional bank based in Texas. He then launched EWT, LLC and Madison Tyler, LLC, electric trading firms, through which he gained vast fortune. As his wealth increased, new companies were founded, including Virtu Financial, which further enhanced Vincent’s net worth.

Most recently he was in consideration for Secretary of the Army, however, he withdrew from consideration of his own volition, stating that he is unable to comply with Pentagon regulations regarding personal businesses.

Regarding his personal life, Vincent is married to Teresa; the couple has three children together. Vincent is a well-known philanthropist, and has supported causes such as education, national security, faith, while he also founded the technology company Rowan Technology Solutions, to support cadet education in the areas of military science, leadership and military history. Furthermore, he has also supported the Army Cyber Institute, Army athletics and Modern War Institute, among many other organizations.
