Chad McQueen is an American-born film producer, actor, race-car driver, and martial artist, who is perhaps best known for portraying Dutch in two installments of the “Karate Kid” film series.

Age, Early Life, and Education Background

Chad was born Chadwick Steven McQueen in Los Angeles, California, under the Capricorn zodiac sign on 28 December 1960, which makes him 62 years old as of 2022. He is the only son of the Filipina-American singer, dancer and actress Neile Adams, and the Academy Award-nominated actor Steve McQueen. He had a sister, Terry Leslie McQueen, who sadly passed away in 1998; he also has a half-brother, the screenwriter, and producer Josh Evans.

Chad inherited his interest in motorcycles, automobiles, and racing from his father when he was growing up, and started racing dirt bikes at the age of nine. Thereafter, he shifted his attention to auto racing, and won his first race in the children-only track event, Mini Le Mans, which was organized on the set of the 1971 movie “Le Mans” (which starred his father). Racing Career

Chad began his racing career with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), and competed in various types of racing such as the Baja 100 and Motocross. He later participated in the 2004 Goodwood Festival of Speed, West Sussex, England, together with the legendary Belgian race car drivers Jacky Ickx and Vanina Ickx – they drove a Porsche 959, which was manufactured from 1986 to 1993. In the same year, he took part in Westernesse Racing, and came in fourth position at the Sports Car Club of America Runoffs.

Unfortunately, in 2006, Chad was involved in an accident that left him with serious rib and vertebrae fractures, and a broken leg. This happened when he was preparing for Rolex 24 At Daytona sports car race at the Daytona International Speedway – also known as the 24 Hours of Daytona –  but recovered fully by 2007. He next drove a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR ‘Ecurie Escargot’ at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion III exhibitions in 2007, before he announced that his racing days were over.

In 2010, he launched his firm, McQueen Racing, LLC, which partners with custom-car and motorcycle industry leaders to develop limited-edition and high-performance automobiles, bikes, and accessories.

Acting Career

McQueen made his film debut in 1978, when he was cast in the sports drama “Skateboard” alongside Allen Garfield, Richerd Van der Wyk and Leif Garrett. He then took a five-year break, and made a comeback in the drama movie “Hadley’s Rebellion” in 1983. He rose to prominence when he was selected to appear in the Oscar and Young Artist Award-winning martial arts drama film, “The Karate Kid”, directed by John Avildsen, starred Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Pat Morita, and was a commercial success, having box office takings of over $130 million against a budget of $8 million. He reprised the role of Dutch in the second installment of the film entitled “The Karate Kid Part II” in 1986, and it was also a commercial success.

In 1991, Chad’s fame saw him cast for the lead role in the action film “Martial Law”, working with some of the finest Hollywood actors such as Cynthia Rothrock. He later shared the screen with Chuck Norris and Billy Drago in the action movie “Death Ring” in 1992, and before the decade ended, Chad was seen in several other films, such as “New York Cop” in 1993, “Number One Fan” in 1995, and “Surface to Air” in 1998, among others. He has also appeared (and was the executive producer) in the documentaries “Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans” and “I Am Steve McQueen,” which were about his father.

McQueen has married twice. He first walked the aisle in 1987 with the actress Stacey Toten, who is known for her performance in the 1980s films “Lovelines” and “Back to School”. They welcomed a son named Steven R. McQueen on 13 July 1988. Steven is a philanthropist, model, and actor who appeared in The CW supernatural drama, “The Vampire Diaries” from 2009 to 2015, “Chicago P.D.” in 2016, and “Legacies” in 2018, among others. Chad divorced Toten in 1990, and later married Jeanie Galbraith on 22 December 1993. From their union, they’ve welcomed two children, the soccer player Chase McQueen who was born in 1995, and Madison McQueen born in 1996.

Terrence Stephen McQueen was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, born to Julia Ann McQueen and William McQueen on 24 March 1930. His iconic appearances were in the films “The Magnificent Seven” in 1960, “The Great Escape” in 1963, “The Cincinnati Kid” in 1965, and “The Sand Pebbles” in 1966, among others. He succumbed to heart failure following serious surgery in November 1980, in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Ruby Neilam Salvador Adams aka Neile Adams, was born to Carmen Salvador and José Salgado Arrastia in Manila, Philippines, in 1932. It’s reported that she was a Philippine resistance spy during WWII before she relocated to the US in 1948. She whetted her dancing skills at Katherine Dunham School of Dance, and began her acting career in several Broadway plays such as “The Pajama Game,” “At the Grand,” and “Kismet.” Chad’s mother made her first on-screen appearance in 1952, and rose to stardom in the ‘60s and ‘70s for her roles in the series “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.” She has also appeared in several other films including “Fuzz” and “Women in Chains.”
