Who is Bernard Curry?
Australian actor Bernard Curry was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 27 March 1974, under the zodiac sign of Aries. He’s appeared in more than 65 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for his playing of Jake Stewart in the crime thriller series “Wentworth”, which Lara Radulovich created, and which also starred Robbie Magasiva, Katrina Milosevic and Kate Atkinson. It follows the lives of security guards and inmates at Wentworth Correctional Centre, the series aired from 2013 to 2021, and won 19 of its 89 award nominations.
Education and early life
Bernard’s parents raised him in Melbourne alongside his brothers Stephen and Andrew; Bernard’s family prefers to stay away from media, and thus not a lot about them is known, except that his brother Stephen’s today a professional basketball player, currently playing for the Golden State Warriors of the American National Basketball Association (NBA).
Bernard was still attending an elementary school when he fell in love with acting, and he continued appearing in school plays upon enrolling at a local high school in Melbourne in 1988. The year 1993 saw Bernard play the lead character Michael Logan in all the 13 episodes of the drama mini-series “Snowy”, which also starred Lucy Bell and Rebecca Gibney, and follows the people who worked at the Snowy Mountains Scheme in Australia in the ‘50s.
He was then cast to appear in an episode of the action crime adventure “Time Trax”, the crime drama “Law of the Land”, and the crime action “Halifax f. p.”
In 2002, Bernard portrayed various characters in the comedy “Flipside”, and the year 2006 saw him play Andrew Gilfillan in the episode “Affluenza” of the action drama “Blue Heelers”, which Hal McElroy and Tony Morphett created, and which starred Martin Sacks and John Wood. The remainder of the decade saw Bernard play supporting characters in the drama “Out of the Blue”, the family comedy drama “Packed to the Rafters”, and the drama “Satisfaction”.
Between 2009 and 2011, he played Hugo Austin in 425 episodes of the long-running romantic drama “Home and Away”, created by Alan Bateman, and which stars Emily Symons, Lynne McGranger and Ray Meagher. It follows the people living in Summer Bay close to Sydney, Australia, the soap opera’s been airing since 1988 and has won 47 of its 161 award nominations.
Bernard’s also known for his playing of Principal George Turner in the 2015 romantic comedy drama “Faking It”, created by Julia Lea Wolov and Carter Covington, and which starred Gregg Sulkin, Katie Stevens and Rita Volk. It follows two girls who, wanting to become popular at school, have revealed that they’re lesbian (which they’re not); the series won one of its eight award nominations.
Three of Bernard’s most recent TV series roles have been in a 2021 episode of the action thriller mini-series “Fires”, the 2021 episode “Lipstick” of the comedy “Spreadsheet” and six episodes of the 2022 mystery crime mini-series “Savage River”.
Roles in movies
In 2000, Bernard played Newspaper Reporter in the popular historical comedy drama “The Dish”, directed by Rob Sitch, and which starred Roz Hammond, Billy Mitchell and Sam Neill. It follows an Australian community which has become involved in the Apollo moon landing; the movie won three of its 13 award nominations.
A couple of Bernard’s following roles were in the 2001 crime drama “Abschied in Den Tod”, the 2002 biographical drama “The Road from Coorain”, and the 2002 sports drama “The Junction Boys”.

He played Aiden in the 2005 horror comedy drama “Puppy”, written and directed by Kieran Galvin, and in which he starred alongside Nadia Townsend and Terence Donovan. It follows Liz who’s attempted suicide but has been rescued by truck driver Aiden, who’s now imprisoned her on his farm. Bernard appeared in only one other movie in the 2000s, playing John Wesley in the 2007 biographical drama “The King”.
The year 2015 saw him play Oliver in the romantic comedy drama “Baby, Baby, Baby”, written and directed by Brian Klugman, who also starred in it alongside Adrianne Palicki and Michaela Conlin. It follows two very different people who’ve fallen in love; the movie won three awards.
Bernard’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2018 family comedy drama “A Boy Called Sailboat”, the fantasy horror drama “Dark Place” and the short horror “The Shore”, both in 2019

Sonya gave birth to their son Fox in May 2010, and she and Bernard married on 27 December of the same year; their second son Banjo was born in 2012.
Sonya was once quite active on Instagram, but it appears that she’s recently deleted her account for unknown reasons; her profession remains undisclosed, while it’s known that she’s an avid runner, and that she’s finished several marathons.
Bernard hasn’t mentioned the women whom he might had dated prior to meeting Sonya, is married to Sonya Bohlen as of September 2022, and has two children with her.
