Who is Justin Chatwin?

Justin Chatwin is a Canadian actor, probably best known to the world as Goku in the fantasy action-adventure film “Dragonball Evolution” (2009), based on the novel series “Dragonball” by Akira Toriyama, and in the double role of Jimmy Lishman/ Steve Wilton in the TV series “Shameless” (2011-2015), among other characters that he’s secured so far in his career.

Justin Chatwin was born on 31 October 1982 under the Libra zodiac sign, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, to Brian, an engineer with his own company, Chatwin Engineering, which originated in 1982 and serves as its President and CEO, and Suzanne (nee Halsall), an artist. Raised as a Catholic in his hometown with his younger sister, Brianna, Justin enrolled at the University of British Columbia to study engineering, however, after only one week, he changed his field of study to commerce, but lost interest in just a month and dropped out of the university.

Justin’s career took off in 2001 with that dare, appearing in TV series; including “Christy: Choices of the Heart”, “Mysterious Ways”, and “Smallville”, all in 2001. Moreover, he made his film debut with a minor role in the comedy “Josie and the Pussycats”.

He continued his career with television roles, making appearances in such TV series as “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction”, “Just Cause”, and “Taken”, all in 2002. In 2009 came his first major role, as Goku in the fantasy action-adventure film “Dragonball Evolution”.

In 2011, his career received a new boost as he was selected to play Steve Wilton in “Shameless”, a professional car thief who later reveals that his real name is Jimmy Lishman, and that he’s from a rich family. He was the main character from seasons one to three, and in the fourth season, he was a guest star and a recurring character in season five. He appeared in 40 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series, which launched him to stardom.

Why Did He Leave Shameless?

After starring in the first three seasons, he left a huge mark on the series as one of the slimiest boyfriends of Fiona, and the husband of a mafia boss daughter. At the end of the third season, Justin’s character was sent off with a mafia thug on a boat and presumed dead. Justin himself expected that he wouldn’t return to the show, but still made a few appearances in seasons four and five, which surprised him as well as his fans. However, it was only short-term as Justin decided to focus on other roles, and it seems that his stint on the show is now truly over as the last season of the show will premiere in December 2021, and his character isn’t included.

During his stint in “Shameless”, Justin worked on other parts, including the lead role in the drama film “Funky Town” and in 2014 starred as Bobby Shore in the film “Bang Bang Baby”, which earned him a Canadian Screen Award in the category for Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

The same year, Justin starred as rookie detective Michael Connolly in the thriller-drama “The Assassin’s Code”, co-starring Peter Stormare and Mark Thompson, and the next year the directing debut of Joseph Cross’s “Summer Night” (2019) saw him in the role of Andy, joining the two main stars, Victoria Justice and Lio Tipton. The same year, Justin started portraying Erik Wallace, the husband of Niko Wallace and a scientist who works at the United States Interstellar Command, focused on finding extraterrestrial intelligent life in the sci-fi drama series “Another Life” (2019-present), appearing in 16 episodes so far.
