The New York Times best-selling author, Annie F. Downs, once again with her insightful writing helps her readers to identify what really matters in life.
She rose to prominence after releasing her books entitled “100 Days To Be Brave” and “Remember God”, and is today well-known as a public speaker, and as the host of her podcast “That Sounds Fun”.
Early life, family, and education
Annie currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee USA, but was born on 7 July 1980, in Marietta, Georgia, where she spent her childhood. She hasn’t spoken much about her family, however, it’s known that she was raised in the Christian faith. She’s written about her parents in her blog, among other things sharing how close they are, and saying that her sisters, Sally and Tatum, are two of the most important people in her life.
Annie wrote about her father saying that when their family had hard times, he was the one who led them, trusted God, and prayed for them, so they made it through.
Annie played the French horn when in middle school, and then attended a local high school. Following her matriculation in 1998, she enrolled at the University of Georgia, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Education) in 2002.
Career
Annie worked as an elementary school teacher, until in 2010 she moved to Nashville, and self-released her first book “Perfectly Unique: Love Yourself Completely, Just As You Are”, which was rejected by the publishers 47 times, before the publishing house Zondervan released it in September 2012.
Two years later, Annie launched her podcast, which has received nearly 25 million downloads in over 200 countries. Some of her guests have been Dave Barnes, Matthew West and Ainsley Britain, and recently she talked with Jodi Benson, a popular American actress who is perhaps known best for voicing the character of Ariel in Disney’s “Little Mermaid”.

Each of her guests hears Annie’s famous question ‘What sounds fun?’, and in one of her interviews, for gospelmusic.org, she said:
‘We undervalue and downplay fun and the place fun ought to have in our lives. We don’t prioritize the fun things; the simple things. Finding fun changes things. Fun is medicine for a sickness we all have. Searching for fun doesn’t mean you’re not responsible, and valuing fun doesn’t mean you’re not grown up!’, adding that it means that we realize that there is something we have lost, and we are set to go to find it again.
Annie’s podcast is mostly faith-oriented, and so are her books. In 2014, she released her second book “Let’s All Be Brave: Living Life with Everything You Have”, and her third book “Looking for Lovely: Collecting the Moments that Matter” was published in 2016.
She had a big success with her 2018 book “Remember God”, and her New York Times bestseller debut was her book “That Sounds Fun”, which was published in 2021. In October of that same year, Annie released her debut children’s book, “What Sounds Fun to You?”.
Talking of her work as a public speaker, Annie travels across the US, and speaks to college students, young women, and adults. Her speeches are described as momentous but funny, and she uses her words to highlight the everyday goodness of a God. According to Annie, life is more fun if we follow the voice of God as best we can, and if we let Him take us on some adventures. Her advice is to never be sorry if you get on an adventure with God because you will be sorry more if you miss out.
