Bruce Travis McGill was born in San Antonio, Texas USA, on 11 July 1950 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor, who has appeared in close to 200 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Jonas Cantreli, in the critically acclaimed 2009 action crime movie “Law Abiding Citizen”. Gary Gray, starred Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx and Leslie Bibb, and follows a man who has taken justice into his own hands now that his family’s killer has been set free; the movie won three of the eight awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education
Bruce was raised in San Antonio alongside his brother David and sister Pamela, by their father Woodrow Wilson McGill who was a real estate agent, and their mother Adriel Rose (nee Jacobs) who was an artist.
He became interested in acting while studying at Douglas MacArthur High School, and started practicing at a local theatre; Bruce could’ve been seen appearing in various school plays, as well as those performed in theatres around Texas. Upon matriculating in 1968, he enrolled at the University of Texas, Austin, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama in 1972.
He worked a couple of jobs in the following five years, prior to launching his acting career.
Roles in movies
Bruce made his debut film appearance in the 1977 comedy drama “Citizens Band”, and gained recognition in the following year with his portrayal of Daniel Simpson Day, in the hit comedy “National Lampoon’s Animal House”. It was directed by John Landis, starred John Belushi, Karen Allen and Tom Hulce, and follows the dean Vernor Wormer who is planning to expel all members of the fraternity Delta Tau Chi, but the boys have their own plans for the dean; the movie won two of the three awards for which it was nominated.
Bruce appeared in more than 10 movies in the ’80s, with some of the most popular amongst these having been the 1981 horror thriller drama “The Hand”, the 1983 biographical historical drama “Silkwood”, and the 1986 romantic crime drama “No Mercy”. In 1989, he portrayed Charlie in the action comedy “Three Fugitives”, written and directed by Francis Veber, and which starred Nick Nolte, Martin Short and Sarah Rowland Doroff.
It follows a former bank robber who has now been taken hostage by another bank robber; and the movie was nominated for a single award.
What marked the ‘90s for Bruce was perhaps his portrayal of Paul Saunders in the 1993 crime thriller drama “A Perfect World”, directed by Clint Eastwood, who also starred in it alongside Kevin Costner and Laura Dern. It follows a kidnapped boy who has befriended his kidnapper, and the movie won one of the two awards for which it was nominated. Bruce made his debut TV series appearance when he was cast to play Daniel Simpson Day in the 1979 comedy “Delta House”, and a couple of his following roles were in the 1980 comedy “Semi-Tough”, the 1985 episode “Out Where the Buses Don’t Run” of the action crime drama “Miami Vice”, and the 1987 episode “Waiting for the Moon” of the romantic comedy drama “American Playhouse”.
Between 1986 and 1992, Bruce played Jack Dalton, the main character in the popular action crime adventure “MacGyver”, created by Lee David Zlotoff, and which also starred Richard Dean Anderson and Dana Elcar. It follows the life of a secret agent, and the series won seven of the 19 awards for which it was nominated, including four Primetime Emmy nominations. Bruce appeared in an episode or two of various series in the ‘90s, including the action adventure drama “Quantum Leap”, the comedy “Black Tie Affair”, and the action crime adventure “Walker, Texas Ranger”.
In 2001 and 2002, he played both Willard Cates and Dr. Sokolov in the horror “Wolf Lake”, created by John Leekley, and which also starred Lou Diamond Phillips, Tim Matheson and Paul Wesley. Bruce is also wel remembered for his portrayal of Vince Korsak in 105 episodes of the mystery crime drama “Rizzoli & Isles”, between 2010 and 2016. It was created by Janet Tamaro, starred Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander and Jordan Bridges, and follows Dr. Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli who are solving crimes in Boston, Massachusetts; the series won four of the 11 awards for which it was nominated.
Bruce’s most recent TV series role has been his portrayal of Bobby Spencer, in four episodes of the 2021 comedy “The Crew”.

Bruce has won four of the six awards for which he’s been nominated.
He won three awards in 2019: a Jefferson State Flixx Fest Jury Prize for Best Actor, a Northeast Film Festival Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Short Film, and a Pasadena International Film Festival Award for Best Actor, all for his performance in the short movie “Waiting Game”. Bruce also won a 2020 SENE Film, Music and Art Festival Jury Award for Best Ensemble Acting – Drama Short, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Waiting Game”.
Love life and wife
Bruce is highly secretive when it comes to his love life, but it’s still widely known that he’s been married for close to three decades now.
He exchanged vows with the non-celebrity American Gloria Lee McGill back in 1994, in a private ceremony attended by only the closest of their friends and family members; it’s believed that the two had met at a party a couple of years earlier, but this remains unconfirmed.
Bruce and Gloria have no children together, and while some believe this to be because they both wanted to focus on their careers when they married, others claim that perhaps one of them is infertile; this also remains unconfirmed.
Bruce hasn’t spoken of any other women whom he has perhaps been with, and as of January 2022, he’s married to Gloria Lee McGill, and they don’t have children together.
Hobbies and interesting facts
Bruce was physically highly active in his 20s, 30s and 40s, as it was important for his acting career to stay in shape, however, now over 70, he no longer works out.
He’s passionate about sailing, and has owned numerous sailboats since his 30s.
