Sarah Lynn Gadon was born on 4 April 1987, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Michael, a psychologist, and his wife Linda, a teacher. She has an older brother, James.

During her adolescence, she trained at the National Ballet School of Canada and later as a student at the Claude Watson School for the Performing Arts.
