Who is Josie Bissett?

Jolyn Christine Heutmaker, known better by her professional name of Josie Bissett, was born in Seattle, Washington State USA, on 5 October 1970 – her zodiac sign is Libra, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress with more than 40 credits to her name, probably still known best for her portrayal of Jane Andrews Mancini in the critically acclaimed romantic series “Melrose Place”, created by Darren Star, and which starred Heather Locklear, Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith. It follows a group of friends who are living in Melrose Place, California; the series aired from 1992 to 1999 and won six of the 14 awards for which it was nominated.

There are today rumors circulating the internet claiming that Josie’s retired from acting, however, she’s still quite active in the film industry, and is currently working on several upcoming projects.

Early life and education

Josie was raised alongside her sister Jenny Gibbs in Seattle, by their mother Linda and their father but about whom not a lot is known, as Josie respects his privacy.

She became interested in modelling at a very early age, and was 12 when she appeared in her first commercial. Josie became interested in acting upon enrolling at local high school, where she was a member of its drama club, and appeared in various plays performed at both the school and a local theatre.

Upon matriculating in 1989, Josie chose not to pursue a college degree, but to focus on working her way up in the film industry.

Josie made her debut film appearance in the 1989 horror thriller “Hitcher in the Dark”, written and directed by Umberto Lenzi, co-starring alongside Joe Balogh and Jason Saucier. It follows a young man who’s driving his father’s camper, and is kidnapping, raping, torturing and murdering women.

A couple of Josie’s following roles were in the 1990 drama “Desire”, the 1990 romantic comedy “Book of Love” and the 1991 biographical musical drama “The Doors”. The year 1992 saw her star as Jessie in the popular horror thriller “Mikey”, directed by Dennis Dimster, and which also starred Brian Bonsall and Ashley Laurence. Roles in TV series

Josie made her debut TV series appearance in the 1990 episode “Attack of the Green-Eyed Monster” of the family comedy drama “Doogie Howser, M. D.”, then in 1990 and 1991, she played Cara Eisenberg in the family comedy “Valerie”. It was created by Charlie Hauck, starred Jason Bateman, Jeremy Licht and Dan Ponce, and follows a working mother as she’s raising her and her pilot husband’s three sons; the series aired from 1986 to 1991 and won two of the 15 awards for which it was nominated.

Between 2008 and 2013, she portrayed Kathleen Bowman in the family comedy drama “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”, created by Brenda Hampton, and which starred Shailene Woodley, Molly Ringwald and India Eisley. It follows 15-year-old Amy who’s become pregnant with her high school friend, and the series won three of the 36 awards for which it was nominated.

Josie met famous American actor Robert Estes when they began shooting alongside for the series “Melrose Place”, and they married on 1 May 1992, in a private ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members.

Josie revealed that she was pregnant in 1996, but suffered a miscarriage a month later; she gave birth to their son in July 1999, and their daughter followed in April 2002, however, Josie and Robert divorced in 2006.

She married her second husband, non-celebrity American Tomas Doig on 4 July 2017, and they’ve been together to this day.

Josie hasn’t mentioned any other men whom she’s perhaps been with, so as of July 2022, she’s married to her second husband Tomas Doig, and has two children with her first husband Robert Estes.
