A former actress, dancer, and singer, who back in the early ’80s rose to prominence after her roles in “Flashdance”, “Staying Alive”, “Runaway”, and “Dirty Dancing”, Cynthia Rhodes was born under the zodiac sign of Scorpio, on 21 November 1956, in Nashville, Tennessee USA; she holds American nationality and her ethnicity is White. Early life and education
Cynthia was raised in Nashville, but hasn’t spoken much about her parents, thus their names and occupations stay unrevealed. She attended Glencliff High School, and upon matriculating in 1974, she didn’t enroll in college but launched her singing and dancing career at Opryland USA, a theme park in suburban Nashville, which operated seasonally from March to October.

Cynthia made her acting debut in 1976, as Even Dozen in an episode of the series “Musical Hall America”, and then after over five years, she was seen as a dancer in “The Tubes Video”, and then she appeared in the music video for Toto’s song “Rosanna”.
In 1983, she was cast to play Tina Tech in “Flashdance”, alongside Jennifer Beals, Lilia Skala and Michael Nouri, and then she was seen in another music video for the song “The Woman in You” by the Bee Gees.
In the same year, Cynthia portrayed Jackie in the romantic musical drama directed by Sylvester Stallone, entitled “Staying Alive”, also starring John Travolta and Finola Hughes, which had six awards nominations, and Cynthia was nominated for Bravo Otto Germany Award for Best Actress (Schauspielerin).

In 1984, she had a guest role in an episode of the series “Fantasy Island”, before she was cast to play Thompson in the science-fiction crime action film “Runaway”, also starring Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons, written and directed by Michael Crichton.
Cynthia acted in the music video for the song “Don’t Mean Nothing” by Richard Max, before her role as Penny Johnson in the epic musical romantic drama “Dirty Dancing”, starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and Jerry Orbach. As mentioned, Cynthia started her music career in the theme park in her hometown, and in the movie “Staying Alive” she performed the songs “Hope We Never Change”, “Waking Up”, “I’m Never Gonna Give You Up”, and “Finding Out The Hard Way”.
In 1986, she sang “Love Theme” in the movie “The Devils Wears White”, and in the 1988 movie “Hot Splash” she sang “Let The Love Begin”.
In the following year, she sang with the music group Animotion, as the lead female singer, and while she was in the group, they released their third self-titled album, and the song “Room to Move” was heard in the movie “My Stepmother is an Alien”.
Cynthia stayed with the band for a year.
Love life and relationships
There were various rumors concerning Cynthia’s love life, and one of them was that she was in a relationship with Patrick Swayze, and some people even thought that they were married, however, this was just a rumor.
In 1983, Cynthia met her future husband, Richard Marx, a famous pop-rock singer-songwriter, with whom she worked for Stallone’s movie “Staying Alive”, however, at that time, although Richard liked Cynthia very much, they didn’t start dating. The reason was their age difference, Cynthia is seven years older than him, and thus he thought that he was too young for her.
Two years later, they met again at the party, and soon after started dating. Four years later, on 8 January 1989, the two married. They lived in Chicago, Illinois, Richard’s hometown, and at that time, they were one of the favorite Hollywood couples.
On 11 September 1990, Cynthia gave birth to their first son, Brandon, their second son, Lucas was born on 14 September 1992, and the third boy was born on 4 January 1994. Today, all three are talented musicians.
The news about Cynthia’s and Richard’s divorce after nearly 25 years of marriage floated the newspapers and internet in 2014. At the time of her first pregnancy, Cynthia told Richard that she would pause her acting and music career for a while, however, after she gave birth to their third son, she decided to retire.
Her last public appearance was in Richard’s music video for the song “Christmas Spirit” in 2012, and Cynthia also sang back vocals for his eponymous album released in the same year.
In 2017, the journalist of the Naples News tried to interview Cynthia while she was on her vacation, however, she refused.
