Alexander Jerome Gould was born on 4 May 1994, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Of Russian Jewish ancestry, he is the oldest child and the only son of Tom Gould and his wife, Valerie. His younger sisters are Kelly and Emma Gould. Kelly is known for her role as Shannon Clemens in the TV series “Rita Rocks”, and as Lucy in the TV comedy series “Lucky Louie”.
He was home-schooled, and before enrolling at Clark University in 2013, Alexander was a part of a gap year program called Nativ, during which he lived in Israel for nearly a year, in the Negev desert town of Yeruham, where he taught English to local elementary school children.

Two years later, he appeared in the award-winning fantasy romantic-drama film “City of Angels”, with Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage in the lead roles. He continued with minor roles in such TV series as “Freaks and Geeks”, which starred Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley and James Franco, then the Primetime Emmy Award-winning comedy series “Malcolm in the Middle”. In 2001 he was Young Ben Miller in the television sci-fi horror movie “The Day the World Ended”, about a killer alien who tries to kill members of a small town, starring Nastassja Kinski, Bobby Edner and Randy Quaid.
He struggled to secure any significant role in the early 2000s, but then was selected for the voice part of Nemo in the animated film “Finding Nemo” in 2003, and subsequent video games “Finding Nemo”, and “Finding Nemo: Nemo’s Underwater World of Fun”, all released in 2003.

His life turned upside down in 2005, when he was selected to portray Shane Botwin, the son of Nancy Botwin, in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning comedy crime-drama series “Weeds”. The series revolves around a widowed mother (Mary-Louise Parker) and her two boys (Alexander and Hunter Parrish), who start selling marijuana to preserve her luxury lifestyle. Full of misadventures, comedic reliefs, and drama, Alexander and the rest of the main cast received many nominations and awards, including Screen Actors Guild Award nominations in the category for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
