After finished high school, Walter enrolled at Holmes Community College, where he played football for two seasons, before transferring to Florida State University. While at Holmes he played offensive tackle and tight end due to his large frame, standing at 6′5″ and 265 pounds. He earned Mississippi Junior College Player of the Year by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger in 1994. After transferring to Florida State, he played under head coach Bobby Bowden, and earned second-team All-ACC honors in 1996. He declared for the NFL Draft the following season, forgoing his last year of college.

He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks as the sixth pick overall, and played his entire career with the Seahawks. He tried to make a comeback in 2009, but just didn’t feel comfortable on the field and as a result he was placed on injured reserve list. He tried another comeback in 2010, but instead of playing again, Walter announced his retirement from football. His jersey number 71 was retired by the Seahawks, and he was named in the Seattle Seahawks 35th Anniversary Team. Furthermore, in 2014, he was the Seahawks’ Honorary Captain at Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

During his career, Walter earned over $65 million thanks to contracts he had signed with the Seahawks, which certainly increased his wealth, but isn’t reflected in his current net worth!
