Before Tommy became a renowned baseball manager, he played baseball from minor leagues to the MLB, but wasn`t quite successful. In the MLB he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for two seasons, before he was bought by the Kansas City Athletics, who traded him the same year to the New York Yankees.
