Who is Zachary Taylor Warner?

Zachary was born in the USA in 1989 – his exact place and date of birth remain undisclosed. He’s probably only known for being the adoptive son of Kurtis Eugene ‘Kurt’ Warner, a famous American former Football Player who spent 12 seasons playing in the National Football League (NFL).

Zachary was raised alongside his sibling in the USA by their biological father and their mother Brenda Carney Meoni, who was a corporal in the US Marine Corps; Zachary’s father accidentally dropped him when he was young, and this caused blindness and brain damage. Because of this, Brenda left the US Marine Corps so that she could take care of her son.

She met Kurt in 1994, and the two married on 11 October 1997; not long after that, Kurt legally adopted Zachary and his sibling, and Brenda also gave birth to their three children, including E. J. who’s today also a Football Player.

Kurt was raised in Burlington alongside his brother Matt, by their father Gene Warner and mother Sue, who divorced when Kurt was six, and he and his brother then lived with their mother. Sue married another man several years later, but they also divorced; Gene married another woman a year following the divorce, and she gave birth to their son Matt, who became close friends with his half-brothers.

Kurt studied at Regis High School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and it was during his four years there that he began playing football. He matriculated in 1989 and then enrolled at University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in communications in 1993.

Kurt was undrafted in the NFL Draft in 1994; he went for a try out at the Green Bay Packers’ training camp, but wasn’t offered a contract. Following this, he found work in Cedar Falls where he stocked shelves at a grocery store for $5.50 per hour.

He began playing in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1995, after having signed a contract with the Iowa Barnstormers, and was named to the AFL First-Team All-Arena in the following two years; Kurt performed so well in AFL that he ranked #12 on the list of 20 best AFL players of all time.

He signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams of the NFL in December 1997, and was in February 1998 sent to play for the Amsterdam Admirals in Europe; he returned to the US a couple of months later, and spent the remainder of the 1998 season playing for the Rams as their third-string quarterback. The 1999 season was a breakthrough for Kurt, who was named a starter and went on to throw 4,353 yards which ended in 41 touchdowns, helping the Rams reach Super Bowl XXXIV, played on 30 January 2000 against Tennessee Titans; the Rams won, and Kurt was named the Super Bowl MVP.

He signed a new contract with the Rams on 21 July 2000, worth $47 million, and they eventually  faced the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl XXXVI, played on 3 February 2002; the Rams lost 20-17. Kurt was released from the Rams on 1 June 2004, and then signed a one-year $3 million contract with the New York Giants; he then chose not to sign for another year, and instead became a free agent.

In 2005, he signed a one-year $4 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, and then a three-year extension on 14 February 2006, remaining with the Cardinals until he retired in January 2010.

In 2011, Kurt began working as an Iowa Barnstormers broadcaster, and from 2015 through 2018 worked at the Desert Mountain High School as a football coach; since 2019, he’s been working at Brophy College Preparatory as the quarterbacks coach.
