Born under the zodiac sign of Aries on 6 April 2002, Andrea Botez will soon celebrate her 21st birthday. When Andrea was seven years old, she began playing in US Chess tournaments. In 2010, when she was just eight years old, Andrea was the winner of the ‘World Cadets Chess Championship’, the Under 8 Girls Canadian Youth Chess Championship, and five years later, she won the Women’s British Columbia Chess Championship, at just 13 years old. Later in 2015, Andrea won the Susan Polgar National Open. (Susan Polgar is a Hungarian-American chess grandmaster).
In the following year, Andrea placed fourth in the Susan Polgar Foundation National Open tournament, and was 13th in the Susan Polgar Foundation Girls’ Invitational.
In 2018, Andrea attained her highest Federation Internationale des Echecs (FIDE) classical rating of 1773, while her highest US Chess rating was 1933 as of 2019. In December 2022, her ranking was 67,989, among active players in the world; that year, she competed against Dina Belekaya, a Woman Grandmaster, in the Mogul Chessboxing Championship.
Becoming a chess celebrity
In 2018, Andrea and her sister launched their joint YouTube channel, entitled “BotezLive”, and began uploading videos featuring the two of them playing chess. Soon, Andrea became one of the most known figures on the Chess.com platform alongside Woman Grandmaster Qiyu Zhou and Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura.

Andrea took part in the teenage clash between Chess.com’s top teen streamers, entitled Zoomers Play Chess, which was a team match, held in 2020, to help raise funds for children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2020, the sisters signed a contract with Envy Gaming, a collective e-sports and gaming company, and moved to Los Angeles, California USA, where they joined other content creators in the Envy Content House. Andrea and Alexandra run the Twitch channel, also entitled “BotezLive”.
Andrea was a member of the commentary team for the second edition of the online amateur chess tournament Pogchamps. She returned to the Pogchamps 3 tournament in 2021, serving as both a coach for CodeMiko and a commentator, and rejoined the commentary team for Pogchamps 4.

The “BotezLive” Twitch account has gained over a million followers, and besides streaming the two of them playing chess, they also stream ‘Just Chatting’ and occasionally them playing other games. Andrea and Alexandra host a show on their channe, entitled “Botez Abroad”, and this is when they travel to major cities around the world and stream their in-person matches in front of a live audience.

The channel “BotezLive” was launched on 8 April 2018, and it’s today subscribed to by nearly 1.25 million people, and all of their videos combined have gained over 350 million views.
The most viewed video on the channel is “I Played Chess Hustlers in Union Square Park”, uploaded on 2 July 2021, which has amassed over 17.5 million views. The second most watched video, entitled “9-Year-Old Boy Defeats A Professional Chess Streamer” and uploaded on 23 November 2021, has gained over 15 million views. The video features Andrea playing chess with a boy at the London chess shop – she lost to her opponent.
Number three most viewed video on Andrea and Alexandra’s channel is “Undercover Chess Master Plays For My Number”, uploaded on 15 September 2021, which has amassed over 10 million views. In the video, a young chess master tricks Andrea into playing for her phone number.
Presence on social media platforms
Andrea has an Instagram account that’s attracted over 500,000 followers to her over 40 posts, mostly featuring her everyday life, and as she put it, she uses this social media platform just for fun.
Her Twitter account established in July 2020 has gained over 400,000 followers, and she’s tweeted more than 1,500 times.
Andrea has a TikTok account, which has been followed by nearly 450,000 people; all of her videos together have amassed nearly nine million likes. On this platform, Andrea uploads videos featuring her most interesting moments from Twitch streaming.
