Crip Mac

Described as one of the ‘most popular gang-affiliated internet personalities at the moment’, Crip Mac, better known as C-Mac, has been through a lot in life. Street politics, viral interviews, and jail fights are normal occurrences for the rapper, whose wild story has captivated the imagination of millions of fans.

Born in Los Angeles, California, USA, in February 1993, Trevor Hurd was raised in a single-parent household, and moved to Texas when his mother relocated there with her boyfriend. However, the change of scenery wasn’t for him, and he moved back to Los Angeles shortly afterwards, being taken in by his aunt.

As a teenager, C-Mac frequently moved around from one neighborhood to another before becoming gang-affiliated. Although he briefly tried to pursue a strait-laced career after accepting a job as a mechanic’s assistant, he became unemployed shortly afterwards due to a drinking problem.

The allure of gangs led to C-Mac moving to 55th Street in South Central California at the age of 19. Since then, the neighborhood has become something of a local tourist attraction and is revered by fans of the rapper. As those who are familiar with gang culture will know, members ‘rep’ their neighborhoods with pride, and C-Mac is no different.

55 Neighborhood Crips

C-Mac is affiliated to the 55 Neighborhood Crips, which date back to the 1980s and were previously known as the 55 Hustlers. By the 1990s, the gang, which is part of the Rollin 50s Neighborhood Crips group and falls under the wider Neighborhood Crips umbrella, had changed its name.

With 90 documented members at time of writing, the 55 Neighborhood Crips are the largest subset of the Rollin 50s Neighborhood Crips, an alliance which includes the 57 and 58 Neighborhood Crips. Those unfamiliar with gang culture may assume that all Crips are allies, but this couldn’t be further from the truth – for example, the 55 Neighborhood Crips are ‘bitter enemies’ of the 51 Trouble Gangster Crips and 52 Hoover Gangster Crips.

Although gangs initially formed in African-American neighborhoods to protect and serve the community, they soon began perpetrating violence against civilians, law enforcement agents, and one another.

In February 2022, urban blogs posted a harrowing video of C-Mac being attacked by his fellow gang members; it was later revealed that he had been ‘disciplinary punished’ by the 55 Neighborhood Crips for unspecified reasons. Some believed that C-Mac had given too many interviews, but just ten days later, he was back on another podcast discussing the incident.

‘It lasted for seven minutes… And you can’t win a DP!’ C-Mac proudly told listeners. This isn’t the first time that the musician has been attacked by gang members, however, as in 2022 he was also beaten up by members of the Rolling 60 Crips for ‘false flagging’ – also known as claiming to be affiliated to a gang of which you aren’t a member.

In an unrelated criminal investigation, a police officer also described false flagging as a tactic used when a gang member ‘enters rival territory posing as a member of the rival gang in order to draw a rival gang member into the open for an ambush’.

Legal Issues

In December 2023, C-Mac was arraigned in LA County court on federal gun charges, moments after an LA County judge had agreed to drop gun charges against him following a September 2023 arrest. USMarshals arrested the YouTuber and informed him that the case had been transferred to the US Attorney’s office, and that he would be facing gun charges in a federal court.

A two-month-old indictment against the rapper was unsealed days before the arrest, showing that he was charged with being ‘a felon in possession of an unregistered weapon and ten rounds of ammo’. The indictment also added that C-Mac had been arrested five times in less than a decade. His first arrest dates back to October 2014 for transportation of a controlled substance; ten months later, he was arrested for grand theft.

His other criminal charges include attempted second-degree armed robbery (November 2017) and being a felon in possession of a firearm in LA County (October 2021 and July 2022). There’s been plenty of speculation regarding C-Mac’s latest arrest, with one lawyer claiming that he could do life in prison if he finds himself involved in a larger gang conspiracy and RICO case, racketeering. However, this has yet to be confirmed.

Personal Life

In August 2023, C-Mac broke up with his girlfriend on Instagram Live, which some considered to be an attention-seeking stunt. As it happens, the girlfriend in question, Tanea, shares a child with Compton hip-hop artist Snoopy Badazz, who recently signed to Snoop Dogg’s infamous Death Row record label.

Naturally, Snoopy was less than pleased about Tanea dating the musician. During their time together, Tanea and C-Mac were loud and proud about their relationship, with Tanea previously saying: ‘Being Crip Mac girlfriend I got a lot of backlash, but I still love him.’

Prior to his relationship with Tanea, C-Mac was rumored to be having a fling with his manager Lupe due to their close bond. Nevertheless, there is no evidence of this. Lupe continues to support her client during this challenging time in his career and has publicly expressed her disappointment regarding his latest legal issues.

C-Mac never stays single for long, and as recently as December 2023 – yes, even after his arrest – his latest girlfriend appeared on the “No Jumper” podcast to discuss their relationship. However, as one of the rapper’s ex-girlfriends previously alluded to their relationship being fake, most fans of C-Mac don’t take his current love interest seriously and believe that she’s using his hype to become a social media influencer.

Despite being such a public figure, C-Mac is worth just $1 million, with the bulk of his income coming from YouTube and other social media platforms. With that said, it’s been alleged that he’s also earning money through illicit means thanks to his gang affiliation.

Most online sources list his height as over 6ft (182cm) tall.
