Shawn attended Emery High School and played basketball there, becoming one of the most successful basketball players in Utah high school history. His team recorded a 68-4 record during his time with the school, and won two state championships. He became very popular and was featured in numerous national publications. He had career averages of 20.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.4 blocked shots per game.

Bradley was heavily sought after by many colleges around the country, but eventually decided to attend Brigham Young University (BYU). He became a starter during his freshman year and established himself as the leader in blocks in the NCAA. BYU would have a run at the NCAA tournament during that season, but due to foul trouble they were defeated during the second round. He was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Freshman of the Year, and would get numerous awards during his freshman season. He then left school to become a Mormon missionary, going on a mission to Australia for two years. On his return, he entered the 1993 NBA Draft.

He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers as the second overall pick despite analysts being divided at to how he would impact the game. The team acquired Moses Malone to serve as his mentor, and spent a lot of their resources to help Bradley reach his potential. He produced mixed results during his rookie season, and proved to be inconsistent with scoring. However, he was great at blocking, but was also held back by an injury. He returned in his second season and started to establish himself as a blocker and rebounder for the team. However Philadelphia was not satisfied with his performance and he was then traded to the New Jersey Nets.

While in New Jersey he started to show his potential, and even posted a career high 32 points and 15 rebounds in one 1996 game. He continued to set records with his first career triple double, and would go on to have consistently dominating plays. However, with a change of management, Bradley was traded in favor of salary cap space. He joined the Dallas Mavericks and would post the best numbers of his career with the team. He broke his career highs in averages set the previous season and became one of the top defenders in the paint. He established himself as the top shot blocker in the league, however he still had a lot of inconsistencies. However, he remained with the Mavericks until his eventual retirement in 2005 with his playing time slowly declining.

After retiring, Shawn became part of West Ridge Academy, handling multiple roles. He also tried to run for the 44th District seat in the Utah House of Representatives in 2010, but he lost.

For his personal life, it is known that Bradley has been married to Annette since 1993, and they have six children. Aside from basketball, he plays country music, baseball, and enjoys water skiing. He remains a devout Mormon and has been involved in numerous charitable endeavors. He has participated in the “Basketball Without Borders” program, and has also donated to the Bryan’s House facility.
