Early life, family, and education

Born Shane Brandon McMahon on 15 January 1970, in Gaithersburg, Maryland USA, he was raised by his parents Linda and Vince alongside his sister Stephanie. Growing up in a family of professional wrestlers, it isn’t surprising that both he and his sister followed in their parent’s footsteps.

Their mother, Linda McMahon (nee Edwards) is a retired professional wrestler, and co-founder of the Sports Entertainment Company Titan Sports, today known as WWE, alongside her husband Vince.

Vince is also a retired professional wrestler, a promoter and media mogul, who from 1982 until 2022, served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and chairman of WWE. He is also the founder of Alpha Entertainment.

Shane’s sister, Stephanie succeeded their father, and is the current chairwoman and CEO of WWE, and an authority figure who shows on the NXT, Raw, and SmackDown brands. Stephanie is also a retired professional wrestler.

Speaking of Shane’s educational background, he attended Greenwich High School in Connecticut, and upon matriculating in 1988, he enrolled at Boston University, Massachusetts, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 1993.

Wrestling career-beginnings

Shane made his on-screen wrestling debut in 1988 as a referee named Shane Stevens, followed by his appearance at the 1990 WrestleMania VI. Then he mainly worked behind the scenes before he made his debut as a regular on-air character in 1998.

The next year, he joined ‘The Corporation’, a heel stable in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and soon took control of it. After the fight with his father Vince, Shane created a new faction named ‘The Union’, and eventually joined forces with the Ministry of Darkness and The Undertaker to form the so-called Corporate Ministry.

In 1999, Shane received the Rookie of the Year Award by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which he refused to accept, saying that these rewards are for the boys.

In 2001, Shane again fought with his father, and this time Vince had a kayfabe affair with Trish Stratus, thus Son and Father were supposed to have a match at WrestleMania X-Seven – kayfabe in professional wrestling is a portrayal of staged events as ‘real’. Shane defeated his father, Vince in a Street Fight.

One week before the match, World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was sold to the WWF, and to shock Vince, Shane purchased WCW himself.

Later, he led his WCW wrestlers against WWF wrestlers, and Vince joined forces with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), whose owner was his sister and Vince’s daughter Stephanie. They were heel, and this partnership was named ‘The Alliance’ – their goal was to run his father out of business.

Soon, Vince publicly fired his children in an episode of Raw, and for almost two years, Shane wasn’t seen on television.

Shane’s career from 2002-2022

In July 2002, Shane made a brief appearance in the 15 July episode of Raw, and then in 2003, he returned as a face appearing in Survivor Series. Subsequently, he left Raw and served on the executive creative staff, focusing his time on his family.

In 2006, he returned as a heel, siding with Vince against Shawn Michaels, and after many fights, on 1 January 2010 Shane announced his resignation.

Shane worked behind the scenes for more than six years, and then on 22 February 2016, in an episode of Raw, he returned to WWE. He announced that he wants to be in charge of Raw, so he confronted his sister, who was just receiving Vincent J. McMahon’s Legacy of Excellence. Vince stated that Shane and Stephanie would serve as co-general managers of WWE.

In October 2019, Shane was fired after losing a ladder match against Kevin Owens, and after that he was away from television for ten months,. On 3 August 2020, he returned as the host of “Raw Underground”, but after the show was canceled, he began serving as a backstage producer.

At the 2021 Raw’s Elimination Chamber Match, Shane was challenged by Braun Strowman, and in the 15 March episode, Shane won. Next, Braun challenged Shane to a Steel Cage Match, and this time Shane lost.

His last appearance was at the Royal Rumble event held on 29 January 2022, and although he was scheduled to appear at Elimination Chamber, held in February 2022 in Saudi Arabia, that didn’t happen.

After it was announced that the new CEO of WWE is Stephanie, it was clear that Shane has left the business.

What is he doing now?

Since he was 15, Shane was working in WWE and served as producer, announcer, referee, and on-screen wrestler, thus he was a big part of this company.

Outside of WWE, Shane has his own business ventures, and is the founder of China Broadband Incorporation Company, based in Colorado. Shane is also the founder of Ideanomics, a global electric vehicle company.

Love life, wife, and children

Shane hasn’t been the subject of any affairs and sex scandals, and since 1996, he’s been a married man; his wife is Marissa McMahon (nee Mazzola), with whom he has three sons, named Declan, Kenyon and Rogan, who were seen in WrestleMania 32 when Shane had a match against The Undertaker. Shane’s wife prefers to keep her life away from the public eye, thus except for her name, nothing is known about her.
