She is best known to the world for being a steel baroness, which is the main source of her wealth, and as such, she has been rated as the richest woman in Asia and the world’s 44th wealthiest person. She has been also recognized as a politician, the Minister of Power serving until 2010, when she lost in the elections. She has been active in the business industry since 2005.

An Indian businesswoman, how rich is Savitri Jindal as of late 2015? Forbes has estimated that Jindal’s net worth is currently over $4 billion, making her the richest woman in India. Obviously, all her wealth is being accumulated thanks to the family businesses which includes the companies JWS Steel, Jindal Steel and Power Limited.

Savitri Jindal Net Worth $4 Billion

Savitri Jindal was raised in a traditional Indian family. In 1970 she married Shri Om Prakash Jindal, who was by profession an engineer and who had established in 1952 the Jindal Steel Group Company, which soon after became a conglomerate. As a woman who was raised in a traditional patriarch way, and living as a traditional woman, according to research, she had never been involved in this family business until 2005, when her husband died in a helicopter crash. After her husband’s death, she took charge of the company.

Savitri now serves as a non-executive chief officer of the company, and her four sons – Prithviraj, Sajjan, Ratan and Naveen – have control of its four divisions, steel, power, oil and gas, and mining.

Savitri is not one of the most educated women in India, however, since she has taken over the company, its revenues have increased immensely, also increasing Jindal’s family overall wealth. Some of the most profitable deals Savitri has sealed include the acquiring of iron ore mines in Chile, and Bolivia and also winning oil exploration blocks in Peru.

Savitri has also been recognized for her political career, being a member of the Indian National Congress Party. Starting in 2005, she was elected as the Haryana Vidhan Sabha from Hissar Constituency. Furthermore in 2009, she won another mandate, and was appointed as the cabinet minister in 2013 of the Haryana Government.

Thanks to the Steel company she now owns, Savitri has been put on numerous Forbes lists; she is the 23rd richest person in India in 2015, and she is the 285th billionaire in the world.

However, like any other business company, JSW Steel, ie its division of Power Limited, recorded a few losses recently; it is reported that some of the company’s operation in Australian mines have been shut down, which affected her net worth.

Nowadays, Savitri Jindal is an accomplished woman, both in business and family life. With her late husband she has four sons and five daughters. Her sons are already in the family business, being in charge of the four divisions of the corporation, and leading it to the new, hopefully successful accomplishments, and increasing the fortune of the whole Savitri family. Currently she resides in Hisar, Haryana, India.
