Rudy attended the Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School and then went to Manhattan College to study theology for four years. After graduation, and contemplating a life in the priesthood, he would eventually attend New York University Law School in Manhattan, finishing as a magna cum laude in 1968. He started his law career under Judge Lloyd MacMahon who was United States Southern District Judge for New York at the time. He went on to join the office of the US Attorney and by the age of 29, had become the Chief of the Narcotics Unit as well as executive US attorney. By 1975, he was called to serve in Washington D.C. working as Associate Deputy Attorney General. He returned to New York in 1977 to practice law under Patterson, Belknap, Webb and Tyler. Throughout these years his net worth had started to build up.

In 1981, he occupied the third highest position in the Department of Justice after being named Associate Attorney General during the Reagan administration. He became a supervisor of Attorney offices, law enforcement agencies, drug enforcement agencies and the like. Around two years later, he became the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, earning a reputation as a ruthless operator as he cracked down on organized crime and corruption. He earned 4, 152 convictions with only 25 reversals during his tenure which, however, did not go without criticisms, as some people reported he deliberately arrested a few for publicity, only to later release them and drop charges.

By 1989, he went on to his first candidacy for mayor of New York against David Dinkins. He lost by a very small margin and it was considered the closest margin of any mayoral elections in the city. He ran again in 1993, and with Dinkins losing a bit of favor, succeeded in becoming the first Republican elected Mayor since 1965. During his time as mayor he reduced overall crime by 57%, and murder rates by as much as 65%. He improved the law enforcement agency, welfare and overall quality of life. He was eventually re-elected in 1997 after high ratings of satisfaction. With his favor dropping by the year 2001, he was then suddenly faced with one of the biggest and most tragic events of the country, the 9/11 attacks.

Giuliani became one of the most well-known voices and faces following the attacks. He became an outlet of support and reassurance for the city as well as the country. His support earned him the title of being one of the greatest mayors in New York History. Time Magazine also named him person of the year and he was given an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II.

Giuliani tried to run for the senate and even presidency but eventually withdrew with concerns for his health and his personal life. He battled prostate cancer and had to deal with issues of extramarital affairs with his soon-to-be third wife Judith Nathan.

Even with some people trying to encourage Giuliani to run again for politics, he declined and decided to focus on business.

In his personal life, Rudi has been married three times, now married to and living with Judith Nathan since 2003. He has two children from his second marriage to Donna Hannover(1984-2002), having previously been married to Regina Peruggi(1968-82).
