He was again successful, winning his first ten fights, which certainly increased his wealth. However, his next match was a loss, as Carlos Condit defeated Rory at the UFC 115, which was regarded as a Fight of the Night. However, he bounced back in no time, defeating Nate Diaz by a unanimous decision, dominating Diaz all three rounds. Rory continued to string up victory after victory, reaching a 15-1 record, before losing his second match, this time to Robbie Lawler by split decision. He then fought Demian Maia and won for the 16th time in his career, and for the second time received the Fight of the Night bonus, which increased his wealth again. However, he lost again to Lawler, this time at the UFC 189 in a match for the UFC Welterweight Championship. The fight became a fan classic and due to overall performance by both fighters, received the Fight of the Year honors, while both of them got their Fight of the Night bonuses. He participated in one more fight in the UFC promotion, recording his fourth loss, and first to Stephen Thompson.

In August 2016, Rory signed a contract with the Bellator MMA and made his debut in 2017 at the Bellator 179 against Paul Daley – Rory won by submission, further increasing his wealth.
